Lon Kruger to be named OU coach

I don't think there is any way the DOK editors would let Berry write an April Fools Day joke column. Additionally, I'm not certain Berry has a sense of humor.

I actually think he will be a very kelvin-esque hire. Remember, it took Kelvin something like 6 years to win an NCAA tournament game here. I think he can re-establish us as a consistent winner before he retires.

If you are talking about the early Kelvin years, I agree. I'm just saying, I kind of see that as Kruger's ceiling.

Remember, and this is AMAZING, Kelvin only had two teams, out of twelve, that finished lower than 3rd in the conference. That is crazy consistent, at a high level, regardless of what we were doing in the Dance. I don't see Kruger getting us to that point again, but if he can keep us in the top 5 or maybe 6, that should get us to the Dance, and keep the fans happy while we rebuild.

Goodman from Fox sports just tweeted it isn't a done deal but they're in talks and OU wont take no for an answer

If it is true, I hope Evans gets that Lamar job.

You seen the names that applied for that? It's doubtful.

I was hoping Woj at TU would leave, and Evans might be considered there.

# FYI: Lon always declines comment on anything job-related. So his no comment isn't necessarily an "I can't talk about it yet." 2 minutes ago via TweetDeck

# Just talked to Lon Kruger. He had not heard about the report that he's gonna be the next OU coach. Declined comment on story. 4 minutes ago via TweetDeck

I'd love it if they hired Evans as the lead assistant now and groomed him for a few years.

if true, RIP OU mens basketball.

What? The guy has nearly 500 wins as a head coach, and has been to the NCAA Tournament 13 times.

He would probably lead among Big 12 coaches in number of NCAA Tournaments appearances.

This would bring stability to the program and get it back on track. Plus, Lon would probably retire here.

He would win, bring the program back, and leave it in great shape. In my opinion.

very, very happy about this hire. we needed a "professional" coach.

he's clean and obviously wants to be here. it might be underwhelming to some, but at least it's a good, solid hire. he's accomplished and KNOWS the college game. from both coasts and in the middle.

i dont think you can say we wont be "elite" with him...who knows. if he can nab a couple decent players anything can happen. Kelvin wasnt "elite" either for a while and neither was Self.

Agreed. This would be the best case scenario at this point.
