Losing Newell Has Hurt

Someone should bring back the poll about how many losses losing Calvin will cost us this year. People laughed at 4-5 but now what do you guys think ? The only guy on our team who could create his own shot when he wanted to.

LOL @ UCF winning in the Big East.

OU is better than UCF right now, and we'll only be better next year.

Who said they were gonna win the Big East? I just said they are gonna be good.

I never said they were going to win the Big East.

But they will finish below .500 in conference play, I wouldn't call that "good".

How about we let the season play out first? And it's easy to assume Newell would have kept contributing at that same level, but we don't know if that is true or not. He might have gone into the same slump that Cam and Neal have. Just b/c he was quick and could get his shot, doesn't mean he wouldn't have struggled too.

Not to mention there is no way to quantify his me first attitude. We've had enough of that in recent years, and if losing Newell this year, and additional games b/c of the loss of Newell, helps our program next year and beyond, I'm fine with that.

For reasons that are not clear, Calvin was Capel's whipping boy. For reasons that are not clear, Calvin was Kruger's whipping boy. For reasons that are not clear, a few of the older players treated him like he was the team mascot. For reasons that are not clear, he was not the starting #2 guard on a weak Oklahoma team.

if two different coaches didn't like him, and his teammates didn't like him, there was almost certainly a reason that was clear to those around him.

I'm not inffering that Calvin was at all blameless. I am inferring that the reasons that he left are not clear to message board posters.

Are we talking about Calvin Newell or Kevin Durant???

Calvin was a good athlete, and average basketball player. I wish him the best, wherever he wants to be, which clearly was not in Norman, Ok.....

The reasons are plenty clear.
He wasn't starting because he wasn't as good as the starter.
He didn't like that, so he left.

Thanks for posting your comments. They support my position quite well.

Sorry, I meant to say it was the vast conspiracy against the best player in the team.

Pretty easy to see....

UCF is joining the Big East, they have a brand new 10,000 seat arena, a brand new basketball practice facility, and its in Orlando, FL.

On top of that, they are 13-3, pretty solid, and have a loaded team coming back next year. At OU, Calvin was on a crappy team and his entire tenure is going to be part of a rebuilding process. At UCF, he can go win right away.

PG: Marcus Jordan (michael jordans son). Averages 17 and 3 this year as a junior.
SG: Calvin Newell. Will start right away and be a big time scorer next to Marcus.
SF: Isaiah Sykes. Averaging 12 and 7 this year a soph.
PF: Tristan Spurlock. 6'8'' 230 transfer from Virginia averaging 8 and 5 as a soph.
C: Keith Clanton. 6'9'' 250 and averages 15 and 10 as a junior.

Calvin probably just wanted to be part of a team that he can start for, and be on a winning team instead of a rebuilding project.

Calvin will NOT start at UCF.....they have a transfer that is sitting out this year that is better than Calvin and they WON'T be better than OU next year in my opinion....that being said, I think the freshman guards we are bringing in next year would have pushed Calvin for minutes anyway....just an opinion.
