I'm about to set Syb into some kind of apoplectic shock, ....

Maddie may or may not be back this season. If she's back, that knee is going to be racing through her mind every minute of every game.

We are playing our best ball right now.

So this is the question... do you keep Maddie on the bench if she is well enough to play or let her sub off the bench -- not wanting to mix with the success and chemistry right now of the starting five?

I sub her -- and I'm not convinced she's going to be 100 percent physically or mentally if she can come back this season.

Go ahead, Syb, when you quit slobbering in rage, what do you think?

Maddie's expertise in knees probably equals or exceeds anyone on staff. She will handle herself carefully and stay within her capabilities.

She's only been out two weeks, however, I don't think it really matters whether she comes off the bench or starts. I trust her and her ability of how much playing time she is comfortable with. She may not be 100%, but I will take what ever she can give us. Her length is such an asset, any minutes she can provide is money in the bank.

Thank you, everyone for your thoughts, but no one has really addressed my question/thought on impacting team chemistry right now.

I'm sure Syb will weigh in today sometime.

Do not think it impacts team chemistry either way. But I would think she would be coming off the bench at TCU, if that is her first game back. The next game vs. Baylor is senior night. Coale usually starts her seniors. We have 5, six if Manning does not put in for another year. That may solve who starts vs. Baylor.

Ollie, I don't think the chemistry changes one bit. This team has matured so much in the past 10 games, that I really don't think any thing will be affected in the way the kids play. They will continue to feed the beast down low, and will free up the shooters outside. As far as physicality for Maddie, can she drive to the rim, and will she still have her outside shot after 2-3 weeks of game inactivity. Chemistry stays the same. JMOP

I thought I had addressed this on another post concerning what I thought about a core that I had seen develop. Over the past few weeks, prior to the injury, I thought Vivi, Gabbi, and Maddie had become a core, an axle, around which the team revolved. I did not believe that the team would win the past three in the absence of Maddie, maybe one. But, the strength of the team had become how these three interacted. I felt that the others were playing off what these three did.

Now, when Maddie returns, I have little doubt that she will have some insecurity. We've seen glimpses of it every time she had an instant pain in the knee due to some incident on the court. There simply isn't much time to overcome it this year. If she does return against TCU, it does indicated that she would have the TCU and Baylor games prior to the tournament.

Right now, I am more concerned with her health than I am about this year. As I understand, Maddie is leaning to coming back. That would mean that the core of this team would be back intact with Chelsea, Shaina, and Ana fitting into it. Then, there is the ultimate wild card, Nancy. I would take my chances on that being a Final Four team.

If what I heard is true, Maddie will not be participating in Senior Night ceremonies. Again, this is not concrete and I'll confirm when/if I can but take that for what you will.

You probably heard right. If so, Wyatt, Carter, Little, Kellogg and Edwards start against Baylor on Senior Night. Edwards jumps center to start the game.

On team chemistry, they have played together long enough, with different players starting, and using the same players in different rotations for several years. I do not believe that team chemistry will be a problem.

Thank you, one and all for the thoughts. Something interesting to think about while we wait.

I did read somewhere that Maddie hoped to be able to make the decision on her future before Senior Night so your rumor could well indicate that she has made the decision to come back for that 6th season.
