She took a redshirt last year. What now? Can she get an injury pass and not lose a year?

She is eligible for a medical hardship. But the NCAA must grant it after her 5 years has been completed, I believe.

I don't know how realistic it is to think she will ask for a sixth year. We can't even get kids to redshirt for one year.

That depends on a lot of things: How she recovers from surgery, what her academic aspirations are and just how much she enjoys college life, to name a few. It's way to early to speculate about what she might choose to do, but she will probably have the option if she wants to take it.

Well said.

Most kids are just ready to be done and move on with life.

Women athletes tend to finish school in four years so they don't want to hang around (unless they attend grad school).

Absolutely correct. Application for a medical redshirt after a redshirt year (6th year to compete 4 years) must me made after their 5th season. A lot of water will go under the bridge before Maddie can make that decision.

I think that unless she wants to play a four year of college basketball to prepare for the WNBA or the Guys see themselves as a serious contender for a national championship she will graduate and move on with her life.

I had forgotten that Maddie got a redshirt last year. Are we sure of that? Heck, I can't remember. I'm getting far too old.

Jason White says why not get two injury passes and spend 6 years with the Sooners :)

Get her Masters paid for and complete at OU sounds like a good thing.. unless the WNBA is calling.

If it was the NBA with their millions for rookie first round picks, perhaps. WNBA only pays in the 6 digit range to rookies, though, so it might be wiser to get a masters unless you also have endorsement dealios waiting.

I selfishly want her to stay Jason White years... with Jason White accolades

Sadly, the WNBA pays in the five digit range for rookies. :-(

For 2012-13 the minimum rookie Salary was $34,500. The average rookie salary was 36,500 plus daily allowance. 3+ year veterans had a minimum salary of $55,000 and a maximum salary of $95,000 plus bonuses.

A player who plays for the WNBA champion ($10,500), is MVP (15,000) and first team WNBA ($10,000) could make $130,500. The WNBA does not pay. No financial incentive for rookies.
