You wouldn't show up with your team to listen to your coach? Sounds like most of them got together and decided to ignore their coach. They are under athletic scholarship, usually that means you do what the person who lets you keep that scholarship says. Reasons not to show up - they were angry or resentful towards the coach or how this all went down.

They are 19-20 year old kids, yes they were angry, they will get over it eventually and understand exactly why he left.

I would have showed up. But I don't blame them. He wasn't the coach any more and they knew it.

Because we doubled his salary, and UNLV had no ability to give him a raise. Virtually any person in any industry would have left for that.

Only two kids missed the speech. They only have ten players on their roster returning. Five kids attended, three were out of town. Only two just intentionally didn't come.
