Adidas Nations' is an event featuring talented high school prospects and a some college athletes.

Amath M'Baye is attending as a college counselor for the African squad there.

Here's the full list of college counselors, where they list Amath as Amaduo and only 6'6. Unless he's shrunk, I can assure anyone worried he's much closer to 6'10 then 6'6.'

In a game there today (played against a team featuring Deshaun Thomas, Nerlans Noel, Willie Cauley, Kyle Wiltjer) he scored 7 points, (3-6 FG, 1-1 3), 1 block, 1 rebound, 1 steal.

I believe the name and height was how he was listed when he played for the Jr French National team 4/5 yrs. ago. So, that is proably where that came from. That is a pretty good stat line if he played about 10 min.

Found this on NBADraft.net

Amath Mbaye -- Pronounced "Ah-mot M-by" was the biggest surprise. He's a 1989 born Oklahoma transfer from Wyoming who will be eligible to play this season and appears to be a future draft pick. Originally born in Senegal, Mbaye grew up in France before coming over to Stoneridge Prep and attending Wyoming. The athletic 6'8 small forward had a solid though unspectacular day but the fact that very few if any scouts were familiar with him made him the day's big surprise. He's got a solid shooting form, a nose for scoring and gets after it on the boards and defensively. Mbaye will have a chance to lead Oklahoma in scoring next season with his combination of touch, aggressiveness and athleticism.

You have to like 2-4 from the 3 point line. Lets hope he can shoot 40% from the 3 point line on the season with a respectable number of attempts.

Based on the box score, this morning M'Baye was an efficient scorer but lacked in other areas.

While tonight M'Baye got on the boards like a boss, but those shooting numbers aren't near as pretty.

Looking at his stats...I can see that he is not a for sure starter for OU.

Wow, that is impressive. From a combined 67 minutes of play in an all-star type setting and only seeing stats you can draw this conclusion.

I don't know if M'Baye is going to start but he is going to play starter type minutes for OU. Fitzgerald, Osby, and M'Baye are all going to be playing more than 20 mintues a game and closer to 30.

He is going to play as much as his body/conditioning allows.

M'baye's stats look pretty good to me on the surface. The competition was pretty good and we really don't have any idea what those games really were and in in what context he compiled his stats. They weren't anything more than exibitions for NBA scouts.

M'Baye's primary appeal, more than anything else is visual. The stats don't reveal his hustle, presence, or smooth stroke. Sometimes those qualities manifest themselves in stats, but, stats don't do them justice. The comment on him was that he was one of the surpries of the camp and he looks draftable.

I don't know what position he is playing on these teams, but I'd like to see some more consistent rebounding numbers.

7 of 15 shooting
4 of 8 behind the arc
2 of 3 free shots
14 rebounds

Against elite competition. Probably the equivalent of two games. So about 10 points and 7 rebounds per game.

Not bad stats. The other problem with this kind of situation is that players are not trying to win the game but they are trying to impress with their individual skills. So you really have to work to get the ball.

I think M'Baye will get more than 7 or 8 shots per game.

Exactly!

It's important to note that M'Baye is playing in an all-star setting, where the team concept is often cast aside for an "everyone-for-himself" version of the game. There were some great players in this tourney. But if you'll check the boxscores, no one really stood out on a consistent basis from one game to the next.

I see nothing in these stats to shake my confidence in Amath, nor to make me think that he will not give OU a tremendous boost this fall...as a starter, not someone coming off of the bench because he has been overhyped. Too many posters on this board have said he's the real deal to make me believe otherwise.

He is listed as a SF on the roster. The brief comment on him that cited him as a surprise of the camp also refered to him as a SF. I'm guessing that for at least those four days he was a SF.

I agree I wouldnt draw any conclusions from these games. I remember watching blake in the Burger boys game and thinking he was lazy. There was several times he didnt pass midcourt cause he was hoping someone could steel the ball and he could show off his leaping ability.
I learned my lesson that you cant draw any conclusions from all star type games as blake is no were near lazy.

Looking at his stats, I'm guessing he played on the perimeter. At first I was skeptical about giving him minutes at the 3, but perhaps that is where he will get some minutes. If he is an NBA talent, it will be at the 3 so I am not surprised he is using camps like this to show off some of his perimeter ability. When the season starts, I assume he will spend a lot more time in the post, though.

Based upon what I've seen, which is admittedly only highlight tapes from Wyoming, the absolute worst case scenario we are getting with this guy is a player that is very similar in height, strength and athleticism to RO. Even if that is all he brings to the table, this team needs more athletic players. If he has the skill-set to competently play SF or stretch PF at a high leve as is being reported by first-hand accounts, then all the better. One thing is for sure our team is going to look a lot different this season based on depth.
