McGusty Transferring

Bieniemy is about to get a lot of PT next season. Better land a legit Grad Transfer pg and another juco wing or backup pg.

Not surprising he leaving, I really thought Doolittle would go too

With all that playing time available for next season, it is clear he was not getting along with the new coaching staff. Not a good look at all.

After OU’s first-round NCAA Tournament loss to Rhode Island, McGusty told the Tulsa World this offseason would have a different feeling.

Turns out a different feeling means a different program.

“The year didn’t go like I wanted it to go for me,” McGusty said. “It really fuels me. It took a lot for me to get over that hump at the beginning of the season, but once I got over it, it was cool. I still got that pain inside of me, that hurt. So it’s just knowing what you’re capable of doing and start showing that on the court. I definitely still have that fuel, and am taking that into my workouts in the offseason and the fall.”

Because he came off the bench? He didn't like that?

He shouldn't like that. We did a piss poor job of using his skills/talents. He was the #41 recruit in the nation. I'm sure he didn't come to OU to sit behind Odomes (and to a lesser extent, James), and to watch Young hoist up 20+ shots a game.

I guess he should have worked on his game , because if he did he would of been a day 1 starter .

Matt or anyone else:

There has been a discussion of Jordan leaving. So, why is McGusty leaving? Anyone know. Did Lon ask him to go, did he ask him to stay, or is neither of these things true. Maybe, Lon left it up to him and he just didn't like the situation as OU. Until late, he didn't start and didn't play much. I think he has potential, but sort of took the year off I guess, if I'm hearing what you guys are saying.

I guess I'm interested in whether Lon has found other players and is just cleaning house so he can give the new guys schollies, or if the roster is changing without regard to whether we have silent commits to take their place.

Any insight is appreciated.

I can assure you Lon asked him to stay. The chances of OU landing a player with his talent this late in the game is very, very small. These types of players have already signed or they have many, many suitors. Losing Shepard is a non-factor. Mcgusty is a devastating loss, though.

He had potential to make the team better but there was too much "i" in his game.

meh devastating shmevastating. he didnt come close to leaving it on the floor this season so I have no use for him.
