Anyone else notice his demeanor last night on the bench, TO's, etc? Thought he looked really disinterested..even going to the table with less than 30 sec left in game.

It's got to be tough going from starter (even on a crappy team) to ...10 min? playing time...

Wonder if he'll stay next year or bolt...That's the tough part...managing guys' egos..even at D1. (hell hs basketball is tough...)

I actually checked the stats, kid is averaging 18mins per I believe. He isn’t shooting well though. But he is basically getting 6th man minutes for this team currently.

Toby asked him about his minutes in the post game interview. he sounded very positive about this team and said all the right things. talked about how he got it going once conference play rolled around last year. and he expects the same this year. his ability to get in the lane and score is going to be crucial for this team, i believe.

This is a challenge this year. Young is already getting a massive amount of attention. Most of these guys were at least 3-4 star recruits in HS which means they likely had their egos stroked quite a bit and were almost certainly big man on campus. NONE of them are even in stratosphere as a player or prospect as TY though. Same was true of Blake, but Blake was a big man. He didn't necessarily handle the ball every possession and he wasn't really making decisions with it.

With TY, because he is a PG, it really becomes the TY Show. And I don't mean that critically, it SHOULD be the TY Show. But he is almost like Westbrook in terms of ball dominance. He is a great and willing passer, but because he is by far the best player on the floor it only makes sense for him to have the ball most of the time and be the one making the decisions.

For guys like McGusty, James, and Sheppard (backcourt players that were already here) it will take leaving ego at the door. That isn't always easy. I don't think it's the same for the bigs or the other freshmen.

As I recall McGusty and Doolittle were about all the offense we had last year after Woodard went down. Both were pretty good at going one on one and they did that a lot.

This year Young is better even than McGusty at going one on one and much better at dishing off his drives. I don't think the team has found it's game around Young yet. If I remember last night Young was without a point for the first 10 minutes of the game. Possibly he was trying to find that flow. To a large extent our success this season will depend on that. I am encouraged with the improvement from Freeman in fitting into the flow. Shep as well.

What we seem to be missing is for the potential scorers to fully capitalize on Young's ability to get them the ball when they are open. They seem to not quite be in rhythm and ready to take a good shot when they get the ball. Be the end of the season you will see more minutes for players who can operate well with Young. My guess now is that we have Trae for one year.

That to me reads more like "I've come too far to quit now," but who knows?

Kam is pre season all Big 12. I can imagine going from that to second string at OU can't be fun. I wish kids would just work hard and hang in there. Who knows, he may?

Lon had several interviews this offseason and routinely talked about how players were turning the corner .......he never talked about McGusty .

Sounds to me like he smacked some this offseason and his play on the floor is showing .

he had one of the best freshman seasons I can remember at OU ,I still think his future is very bright .

Hopefully he sees what Christian James has done, and realize that he can earn that playing time back. There are plenty of minutes that will open up as Kruger tightens the rotation. He'll be playing 20+ this year if he works hard, whether that's coming off the bench or starting.

ah...cool. Yeah I was too lazy...lol. His bench demeanor didn't look great last night the FEW times I looked. YES, FEW...

As others have said..it's the TY show now. HOPEFULLY the guys realize how special he is and that the more TY is successful the more they are.

I don’t think it’s a chemistry problem ,just not playing well this season problem.

Every guard is better this year minus McGusty ,including James .

An off guard should have a field day with young getting all the attention ,they will get a TON of good looks .Not to mention better pg play( seeing the court) then last year .

Young will away be first option ,but there are a ton of shots to go around with this offense and lack of defense (we aren’t holding anyone to 20 plus seconds in the shot clock) basically a ton of possessions.

McGusty is just in a slump ,he will get out and he will be a star before he’s done here .

He shot the ball every time he touched it in Australia which led him to the bench. He has continued to force things which won't help him get off the bench. I have no idea why he is doing it. He may have wanted to out score TY.

James has gotten in super shape. He is more confident and plays much smarter than last year.
McGusty knows that James has outworked him and probably has a better attitude.

McGusty also needs to learn to play more effectively with Trae.

Lon and the assistants will work with McGusty and get him back on track.

I agree that his defense is not nearly good enough so he's either got to improve it or be far more efficient offensively to get the PT he wants. He's got to be better for the team to reach its potential.
