Are all the new girls due on campus this week? Summer classes should be starting.
The opening post in this thread and the accompanying picture brings to mind Sherri's oft quoted statement about getting who we're supposed to have.
If one accepts that God's plan doesn't always coincide with man's plan, yes, we were. The good that came, should have come or is yet to come from those associations wasn't necessarily about the team or a won-loss record. (That would be man's plan.) It would also have required that all those involved understand and be in cooperation with, not opposition to, the plan. Perhaps that was what kept the best possible from being attained--lack of total understanding or buy in by all parties. That's a quote I never have understood. Were we supposed to have Jeffcoat? Zander? Harden? Yancey?

We were suppose to have each of them for a while obviously. I think Sherri is looking at the much bigger picture of each persons place here as it concerns life not just basketball.

Sherri's first responsibility is to putting a winning basketball team on the floor. If by chance she improves their life off the floor OK. When she starts to lose focus on the first then perhaps it is time she moves on to what her interests are.

I'm not sure David Boren/Joe Castiglione agree with you. They want both! And it's safe to say Sherri wants both too. You look at almost all the coaches of Sooner athletics and they all pretty much fit this mold. Sunny Golloway was winning and you didn't see Boren/Castiglione fighting to keep him. This is a university first. Joe C was just recognized from the College of Arts and Sciences a month or two ago for the outstanding job he's done in getting the student athlete's GPA over 3.0 for the 3rd year in a row! This is not the WNBA, NFL, NHL, etc where competitive sports is the only focus.
Sure they want both. Who doesn't? But a team full of good citizens with an average record doesn't get picked up for TV. They don't make the post season. The people who pay donor money, season ticket money or just come to a game now and then and pay at the door come to see a winner, not a group of kids working to improve their life.
Yes, the coaching staff needs to make sure they are making grades and give them the opportunity plus encourage them to go beyond the field and into the community, but that isn't their first focus and ultimately not what they are being paid to do. You're kidding yourself if you think the revenue and the good publicity from a winning team doesn't come first.

And, by the way, I didn't say that was Sherr's explanation or even her belief. I've never heard her offer an explanation for the statement about getting who we're supposed to get.Well, that certainly explains it.
