Of course, there is no way quantitatively to measure it, but my assessment is that his offensive output is almost exactly balanced by his defensive liability. Where we come out definite winner is team chemistry. I think he was a part of that problem and when your point guard is part of that problem, you're in trouble.
On another note, I hope Ray Willis stays.

Quit making things up. Where did you hear that TMG was a bad teammate? From his quoted song lyrics on his facebook? Some of you guys amaze me.

why do you want willis to stay....do you think he can contribute? do you like him? why?

Being late for practice, throwing a fit in practice, etc are not characteristics of a good teammate.

Do you know the circumstances as to why he was late? Throwing a fit in practice? haha that never happens to good teammates...I bet Blake never ever threw a fit during practice.

Look, if you guys want to sit here and peg TMG as a bad teammate, blame his defense (never mind the fact that he played hurt most of the conference season and that he had to play nearly 40 minutes per game), and act like we are going to be better off without him, then have at it.

But count me out.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind we will be a much better defensive team in my mind. Our offensive game will hurt alot without him....I think we will still score points, but were I think it will hurt is when people are struggling and we need a guy to take over on the offensive him....he did that with ease...we will severly miss that from him

But the questioned has to be asked...does his offensive ability outweight his liability on defense.

In keeping with the increasingly prevalent concern for healthy foods by our society, I suggest Coach Capel only recruit Pita Pit All Americans from now on. The Burger Boys just aren't cutting it right now.

BigTime -- No offense, but did you ever play team sports?

I did, and players who only played on one end of the floor are considered selfish and not a good teammate.

Now, he may have been well liked by everybody off the floor and been a good guy, but on the floor he seemed very selfish because he would not play defense, and was a bit of a ballhog on the offensive end.

Maybe it's not fair to say "bad teammate", instead maybe we should say he wasn't a team player.

Listen to BigTime.

The whole notion that OU is better off with TMG gone because he was "bad defensively" is some serious reaching.

MOST true freshmen are not good defensively. Defense is something that improves over time.

What is certain is that TMG is one of the most dynamic, explosive point guards the Big 12 conference has seen in a while. To say that his departure is "good" for the OU program in any way is just flat ridiculous.

TMG = Allen Iverson

Not sure I can come up with a better explanation than that

This! I can't believe this even has to be explained but obviously it does.

With who, Warren at the point?

BOB/Jud,

No offense but I could really care less about what you say or think and can't wait until you go back to owen field. Shouldn't be long now....

I am not sure with who...there is alot still up in the air with this team...I think the fact that any defender can easily get their shot off against him gives room for improvement..
In my opinion WW has proven he can be a decent defender -- see freshman year

I personally dont think by any means we will be better off without him...but I do think we will improve alot on defense

I hope so. This was the worst defensive OU team that I have ever followed (by far). And the problems were far greater than just TMG.

Jeff,

Mark it down. We agree on something. :dance005:

Do you know all the circumstances behind everything? Put them out there, Mr. Omniscient.

So, he was hurt most of the conference season and that affected his defense....but it didn't hurt his offense. Hhhhmmmmm.

I think that we will be much better next year wether tmg came back or not...I see gallon developing into a monster (assuming nothing comes about the 3k)

Has anyone said OU would be "better off" without him (except defensively)?

This sucks

It hurt his offense quite a bit actually. Look at his shooting percentages for the final 6 games of the conference season. He was hurt and worn down. His shots were short.

As for why he was late, it involved the weather. Coach Capel had already set down a no excuses policy in light of the recent discipline problems (Warren skipping practice in Alaska), so he suspended him one half against Baylor.

I don't know all the circumstances, but I do know that TMG was not the main problem on this team (far from it), and losing him is going to sting like hell.

I think with TMG at the point we should have been running and gunning...trying to outscore teams...he could create alot in the open court....if he somehow does come back I think he needs to run and gun next year.....
