$2 million is a lot relative to what top coaches are making now, but I'd bet within the next few years it's the norm.

Totally agree. Changing times and competition for good coaches is driving the price higher. I read on the N.C. State board earlier today that they're prepared to pay between $2 and $3 million to get the coach they want. If so, you can add one more name to that list of $2 million plus college coaches.
 
Also keep in mind the new Big 12 TV deals. Even the teams on the bottom of the Big 12 totem pole will be making several million more per year from the new deal whenever it gets finalized. An extra $500k/year isn't really that much relative to the increase all teams should see in their budgets in the near future.
