Mike Boynton is a helluva coach

He inherited 3 nice seniors in Solomon / Carroll / Smith. He lost 13 times this year with an easy schedule so what will he do next year with no real center and losing their go to guy?

Solomon is not a prized possession. Kendall Smith is a graduate transfer that he brought in. I thought Carroll was an obvious graduate transfer, so I think he deserves some credit in convincing him to stay.

Anyone who thinks OSU has not been a better team than OU the last few weeks is kidding themselves. As much as I hate to say it, the Pokes deserve to be in the NCAA tournament more than the team they played tonight.

Notice I said “the team they played tonight.” Thst was not the team we were so proud of in the early part of the season.

The problem is that the team early in the season was a mirage. It's pretty clear to me that we have been playing bad for long enough that this is the real team. This isn't a fluke or a bad stretch. Its been over half the season. We are bad.

At this point, last years team might have been a better team. They atleast gave effort and lost a LOT of close games...they just couldn't finish.

I’d take Solomon every day and Sunday over our bigs lol. Carroll is all Big-12 1st team silly and he was ALREADY there (convincing him to stay HAHAHAHA ) and I believe Smith was already there - doesn’t matter Boynton is a brand new coach that has done NOTHING to speak of. Average at best and an Cheap pay for OSU as they had and have a dumpster fire going on up there lol.

No they lose THEIR BEST FOUR PLAYERS. please research

I did do the research... they have a stud point guard redshirting this year who was one of the best freshman in America last year. They return Waters and Shine at the other guard spots who both average about 10 ppg each and have great size at 6'6'' each.

PG: Michael Weathers (6'2'' 170)
-Named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Freshman of the Year following a standout season for Miami.. At 16.7 points per game, Weathers tied with Kentucky’s De’Aaron Fox as the nation’s ninth highest scoring freshman..Weathers was the only freshman in the nation to average at least 16 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.4 blocks per game. Led the Redhawks in scoring (16.7 ppg), assists (4.8 apg), steals (1.9 spg) and blocks (1.4 bpg), and was third on the team in rebounding (4.2 rpg). Weathers’ 1.4 blocks per game led the MAC.

SG: Lindy Waters (6'6'' 205)
-Averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds per game this year for OSU as a sophomore. Shoots 38% from 3pt line and 78% from foul line.

SG: Tavarius Shine (6'6'' 200)
-Averaging 10 points and 3 rebounds per game this year for OSU as a junior. Best defensive player on the team. Only shoots 32% from 3pt line though.

PF: Cameron McGriff (6'7'' 220)
Averaging 9 points and 5 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Very good athlete, good shooter, and likely to be the guy that improves the most from this year to next. Shoots 42% from the 3pt line and 87% from the foul line.

C: Yankuba Sima (6'11'' 225)
Averaging 3.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Unclear if he will start, and they have already signed 2 other post players. He had to sit out the first half the year but had promising numbers at St. Johns before coming in. Could be a guy that leads OSU in blocks next year with proper minutes.

Other Notable Players------

Curtis Jones (6'4'' 170) - Transfer from Indiana. Was a top 100 recruit out of high school. Shot 38% from 3pt line freshman year for the Hoosiers. Had 15 points against KU as a freshman for Indiana. Supposed to be a really good shooter.

They signed a couple of 6'8'' forwards in Yor Anei and Duncan Demuth... They will be freshman though. Word has it they are after another transfer or two for next year...

Overall

When you return 3 guys who average 10ppg (Waters, McGriff, Shine) and add players like Weathers and Jones, you should be in good shape. They will be very experienced and are likely to add another transfer or two for next year to get even better.

Weathers played in the MAC dude
Waters/SHine/McGriff allaverage to below average players who scored because the focus was on the 3 other top level players
Sima is Awful!!!
Jones - top 100 means nothing, if he was any good he would still be at Indiana
Transfers are just that, transfers that aren’t good enough to make it where they were and with tons of baggage.

OSU will be a dumpster fire next year and May be even worse if the FBI gets them

Ok, I see what I am dealing with here.... Going to just agree to disagree at this point.

We did a long feature on him yesterday. Since this is ouhoops.com and not osuhoops.com (does that site even exist?) I didn't share, but since you all have a thread going, here's a link. Excerpt:

Twelve months ago, when Athletic Director Mike Holder introduced a teary-eyed Boynton as the 20th head coach in school history, most fans — even die-hards —reacted just like the man at the Ponca City Cowboy Caravan stop: Who?

It was not the first time that Boynton, then less than three months on the job, heard people question his abilities. At every stage of his life, as both a basketball player and a coach, moments of doubt put Boynton in the cockpit to decide what happens next.

Every time someone gives Boynton a chance, he succeeds.

Transfers aren't good enough? Smith was a transfer. When did this rookie start posting here?

You don't know ABD... all transfers and Jucos are bonafide studs haha

I don't think it's a stretch to assume Weathers is going to be a really good player at OSU. We will see on Curtis Jones, but he should be a nice player off the bench behind Shine and Waters.

Yep, just like I posted elsewhere. The ones on here who have all day to run up there numbers of posts THINK they are the smart ones. Sure Byron (Aggie) Houston you are sooo much better than me and others who don’t post much or just recently, sure HAHAHAHA. I probably had OU football and basketball tickets before you were alive lol.

I think, unless the FBI gets to OSU, the aggies will win about 15 to 17 games next year if lucky and go NIT. JMO

Using your logic, we will be worse off than OSU next year. We lose Trae and Lattin plus only have 1 potential impact player, a 3* Bienemy coming in.

They atleast have 1 impact player Weathers who is likely to be better than Bienemy and they don't lose anyone as good as Trae.

Teams can be built off transfers. Eddie and Kelvin did it. OSU went to the Final Four with 5 transfers

Tony Allen, the Graham brothers, JL3 and Danial Bobik. Ivan McFarlin was the only recruited freshman. Three of these guys played in the NBA.

Only the blue lids live and die with a team full of blue choppers.

They lose their 3 best or for sure their 2 best players. And losing Lattin is Not a loss. Of course losing TY is a huge loss and yes I believe we will be worse off. Without TY we are an 11 win team and would have been that or worse this year. No good ahead for us but not for aggies either. And no one knows if Bienemy will be good or a bench player - speculation

Byron, it is a different universe having a coach like Sutton so that is a NON conversation lol

Hmmm, that's weird. I wonder why? He is a RS Junior.

He missed all of last year due to injury and a large portion. He wanted to walk out with the Seniors he was recruited with. He may be back. He may hang them up since he graduated this spring. If healthy he would have been a starter the last 2 years
