Mizzou vs Georgetown

Marcus Denmon (who Cheno thinks sucks) has 23 and 4 thus far.

that was a fun game to watch. Wish Mizzou had pulled it out. Kimmie... Don't ever save the ball under your basket in that situation. Or if you do heave it as high in the air and as far as you can throw it.

Georgetown's guards were unreal. Was OU recruiting that Vee Sanford (11)? He's not one of their big 3, but I was very impressed by him. I thought OU, Baylor and one other big 12 team was in the mix for him before he decided on Georgetown.

Mizzou never should've got down as much as we did in the first half (poor defense combined with lights out shooting). Once we did, we never should've been able to get back in the game. And after taking a four point lead with under 30 seconds left, we never should've lost. Fun (but frustrating) game. These are the types of games that make you better in March, though.

Ratliffe and Denmon emerged as Mizzou's go-to scorers (I hope it stays that way, anyway). They could be a lethal inside/outside combo that opens up a lot of things for everyone else.

There's plenty to work on, but I can't really say I'm too torn up about this game right now.

Kim English (who BigABD says is 1st team all Big 12 caliber) scored 11 points in 47 points and quite possibly made the stupidest play we will see all year out of the Big 12 by saving the ball under his goal up 3 with 5 seconds to play. He threw it right to a G'Town guy who passed it out for a 3 for the tie and overtime.

G'Towns 3 guards combined for 78 points. Why? Because Mizzou guards don't play D and are small and/or not physical. They got straight handled.
G'Town running a Princeton style offense scored 111 points.

Mizzou is not a top 3 Big 12 team.

Laughable. What do you get for being a "top 3 Big 12 team"? A set of steak knives? They'll be one of the top teams in the Big 12, and the difference between teams 1-4 will probably be 2 or 3 wins. Oooh what a big deal it must be finishing top 3 as opposed to 4th or 5th. We'll see though, I think Mizzou looked tough. They just played a classic OT game against the #14 team in the country where they made plenty of mistakes but still almost won, in November. In 2010, no one rolls over for anybody, least of all in the tournament. Everybody thinks they can win it, whether they finished 1st in the Big 12 at 29-1 or not.

Mizzou is not a top 3 Big 12 team.

Mike Dixon: 17 points
Kim English: 11 points
Matt Pressey: 9 points
Marcus Denmon: 27 points

Mizzou guards seem pretty GOOD to me. Plus, 11 points out of English in a game like that is unusual. He is a very good player.

Listening to you talk about Mizzou is like listening to the people on orangepower.com talk about OU. You are blinded by your bias.

BTW,

Mizzou got totally screwed right before halftime when the G'Town guy hit the 3-pointer CLEARLY after the shot clock had expired.

Am I missing something on that? I thought that those types of things were reviewable?

Think. Please.

Mizzou played two 20 minute halves and a 5 minute overtime.

English did not score 11 points in 47 minutes.

He also got hit on the hand/wrist early in the game and was not looking to shoot as much as he normally does. And when you have a teammate playing like Denmon, you defer to him until he cools down. Denmon never did. English isn't going to be a Big 12 first team player and he won't likely average more than 12 per game. He'll still have plenty of games where he scores in the high teens or into the 20s, but that's not what he brings every night. He's a complimentary player, and a very good one when he sticks to his role.

Georgetown averages 80+ points per game and shoots 45% from three on the season. Mizzou did not play great defense in the first half, but a big part of Georgetown's success was the simple fact that they're just damn good. They may have the best backcourt Mizzou will see all season.

So Mizzou's 4 guards got outscored 86-64 by G'Towns 4 guards.
Sorry, but that's weak. I'm different though...I like defense out of teams.

Not blinded at all. In fact, I've been spot on for years about them. In fact, they under perform compared to the hype you give them. If anything you are blinded by your love for them.

Yes, that sounds right. The box score says he played 47 minutes. Still does.

Sawyer, I agree 100%. He is a very good complimentary player. I would never disagree with that. I disagree with ABD pimping of him as an elite Big 12 player. I need to consider the source. ABD use to say Matt Lawrence was equivalent to Brandon Rush also. LOL

Georgetown averages 80+ points per game and shoots 45% from three on the season.
They do now. LOL. They were avg 75 ppg going into the Mizzou game playing against crappy early season teams.
This same team minus a lottery pick (Greg Monroe) avg 73 ppg last year in 23 Big East games. To give up 111 points to them is pathetic. Sorry but it is. If you disagree then you and I have differing opinions on what defense is. Probably like Mike Anderson and Bill Self have differing opinions on what defense is.

Hilarious.

With the way OSU and OU likes to turn the ball over I don't think either team is looking forward to playing Mizzou.

You're not kidding.

If OSU played Mizzou tomorrow, we might turn it over 35 times.

Denmon with another good one at Oregon... 19 points and 8 rebounds. Man, he really sucks, eh cheno? He is only shooting 56% from the 3pt line, 55% from the field, and 90% from the free throw line too. Man, what a terrible player!

Mizzou is very balanced this year...

Denmon: 16ppg
Ratliffe: 12ppg
Bowers: 11ppg
Dixon: 11ppg
English: 10ppg
Matt Pressey: 7ppg
Justin Stafford: 6ppg

Its kinda funny that Matt Pressey doubles the production of Phil Pressey in the same amount of minutes. Phil was highly thought of and Matt was a last second juco guy.

The scary thing is that Mizzou returns every single one of those guys other than Stafford next season. They are all back.
