More Bruce Pearl (sorry)

oh no....extra game tickets so some family could see their kid play AND a BBQ

well doesn't that just make him public enemy #1

next you're gonna say he took some football cleats and wrongfully gave them to a local YMCA team.

what an awful, horrid man!

I don't disagree with you cool. With all this Tressel, Cam Newton, etc stuff, Pearl pales in comparison.

The bottom line is this:

BRUCE FREAKING PEARL IS NOT GOING TO BE OUR NEXT HEAD BASKETBALL COACH!

what's ridiculous is people on THIS board, fans of OU, trying to make such a big deal of it also.

Pearls' actions were LESS culpable than when Barry gave the kid from Miami a winter coat to keep him from freezing.

We stuck behind The King because he was our coach and we needed him. We even filed suit against the NCAA for their fascist tactics.

Now OU fans just tuck tail and submit like a bunch of stoolies. I am sorry but if violations aren't morally reprehensible per se than I am not pushing a coach off a cliff just because the ncaa says "he shouldnt have went to a BBQ".

It's BS overall...and it's certainly BS if it keeps us from taking the best coach available for our program.

Show some sack and support your school instead of the NCAA toadies.

Bruce Pearl is not our coach. (and never will be).

Then why didn't Tenn. do the same? Clearly his being let go is not popular with their fanbase and they are not going to get a better guy.

They actually did, but he put them in a situation where that trust was violated.

I am not saying he's faultless. He messed up. No doubt. I just don't feel it is bad enough to warrant throwing him away as a coach. A fresh locale, a new chance, a new challenge ... I contend he will respond positively and help our program.

The NCAA watches some schools more than others. To think otherwise is a little naive in my opinion.

We are one of the watched.

So little things that get over looked a some places get in trouble as being a "repeat offender"

Its BS but thats the way the communists work and because of that we CAN NOT take that risk. The NCAA is just dying to hammer us like they did Baylor a few years ago, and have been dying too since The King and the Boz gave them the finger

Winning NCAA vs. Board of Reagents of the University of Oklahoma in 1984 in the US Supreme Court will always make OU a mark for the NCAA IMO

Your right i had forgotten about that

Pearl kind of has shady history going back all the way to the Deon Thomas incident back in 1988.

well, you may be right. I just don't generally subscribe to the "ncaa paranoia" that many sooner fans seem to harbor.

By that same token I also don't believe you're supposed to be wary of the NCAA watching you. You're supposed to follow the rules and their watching won't matter.

I understand your sentiment about Barry and The Boz, but do you REALLY think that is the case? NONE of those people work for the NCAA now. It was a few days of press then it was over...and there have been much more flagrant violations since those things happened. Don't you think it sounds a little paranoid?

thats a load of crap. Pearl had nothing to do with "shady dealings" over Deon Thomas. Illinois gave the kid a car, they mentioned it to Pearl over the phone, and he turned them in. he didn't do anything wrong.

He has no shady history. His history is marred with people giving him the business over turning in the Illini.

That's not shady. That's Boy Scout. That's the opposite of shady.

Secretly recording a phone conversation with a 17 year old kid about his recruitment to another school isn't shady? And his "evidence" was dismissed by the NCAA and no penalties were handed out to Illinois or Deon Thomas?

your facts are off...way off. As you say...revisionist history. :ez-laugh:

Pearl is a great coach, but he's also a snake. He's a high risk and a possible high reward. Personally, I don't think he's worth the risk of what the NCAA could do to us if we hire him.

Pearl has shown a disdain for NCAA rules. To say "well, just follow the rules" doesn't carry much weight if you hire a repeat offender.

some would sell their soul to the devil for money, wealth, or fame...or a winning team...geeze get a grip!

1. I can record any damn conversation I am a party to and it can be used as evidence. What is shady about that?

2. His evidence wasn't dismissed, the ncaa wasn't empowered to subpoena a minor and they had no other evidence to make that charge ... but the Illini WERE placed on probation for other infractions uncovered.

I am sorry but that whole "don't turn in others" crap doesn't fly with me. This isn't the mafia or snitching on the playground. If I can't recruit wide receiver X because school Y gave him a sack with $25,000 in it then you're damn right I am going to tell.
