More Bruce Pearl (sorry)

1. I can record any damn conversation I am a party to and it can be used as evidence. What is shady about that?

2. His evidence wasn't dismissed, the ncaa wasn't empowered to subpoena a minor and they had no other evidence to make that charge ... but the Illini WERE placed on probation for other infractions uncovered.

I am sorry but that whole "don't turn in others" crap doesn't fly with me. This isn't the mafia or snitching on the playground. If I can't recruit wide receiver X because school Y gave him a sack with $25,000 in it then you're damn right I am going to tell.

If you are going to report it, then you better damn well make sure you don't cheat in the future because others are going to be looking to turn you in.

Word to the wise...

This is Pearl's biggest mistake. Other basketball folks have been patiently waiting for the day they could burn him. I don't know enough about the Tennessee situation to say whether somebody else reported him or not, but it wouldn't surprise me. He made a bunch of enemies with the Deon Thomas situation.

...and they turned him in when he did wrong. I never said that was bad.

He turned in someone who f'd up in recruiting and the same was done to him. So we have a nice little policing system there...fine by me.

You don't hafta be "extra careful" because you had such temerity that you turned someone in. You follow the rules just like you're supposed to that way you need not worry about it.

I am in no way saying that BP is beyond the rules. IMO he is bound by them like anyone else and should be punished accordingly. Of course IMO he should be punished on the level for having a BBQ and not for buying a car for a recruit or providing him with a bag of money.
