There is no longer any lack of talent on this roster...

Point Guards

Calvin Newell: Newell averaged 29.4 points per game as a senior in 2008-09 at Strath Haven High School in Wallingford, Pa., and earned Class AAA first-team all-state honors. He led Strath Haven to its first state playoffs appearance in nine years.

Over UNO's final eight games, Blair averaged 13.8 points and 4.6 assists while going 11-for-27 from behind the arc (.407). Blair became just the second player in school history to record a triple-double when he racked up 13 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists in a Dec. 5 win over Houston Baptist.

Shooting Guards

Cade Davis: played in all 31 games and started each of the last 27 ... Averaged 9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist and a team-high 1.5 steals in 31.8 minutes per outing ... Played at least 36 minutes in each of last 10 games and in 14 of last 15.. in Big 12 play averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 treys (shot .361 from deep) in 35.6 minutes a game.

Steven Pledger: Played in 30 of team's 31 games and made three starts ... Averaged 6.2 points and 1.5 rebounds in 18.9 minutes an outing ... Ranked third on team with 44 3-point field goals ... TJ Taylor: Badass mofo from Texas. #104 player in class of 2010. Had offers from OU, Arizona State, Marquette, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech.

Small Forwards

Cameron Clark: Another badass mofo from Texas. #34 player in class of 2010. 6'7'' freak who has the 2010 edition of Alec Burks written all over him. Chose OU over Oklahoma State and Marquette.

Nick Thompson: 6'9'' combo forward who played on the perimeter in junior college. Thompson averaged 8.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists (ranked second on team) in 23.6 minutes per contest for the 27-10 Golden Eagles. He shot .556 from the field, .388 from 3-point range. Andrew Fitzgerald: Played in 26 of team's 31 games and made 11 starts ... Seven starts came in the final seven games ... Averaged 4.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 15.7 minutes a contest ... Ranked third on team with his .511 field goal percentage and also shot .638 from the free throw line (30-for-47) ... Averaged 13.0 points on 19-for-32 (.594) shooting over a three-game February stretch against Colorado, Kansas State and Kansas ... Recorded season highs of 16 points (8-for-14 shooting), six rebounds and 37 minutes at No. 1 Kansas (Feb. 22). Currently running a 6 minute mile, which apparently isnt better than middle school girls track runners.

CJ Washington: Washington, a 6-7, 210-pound sophomore forward at Connors State College in Warner, Okla., was a first-team junior college All-American and led his squad to a 30-4 record and an appearance at the national junior college tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. Washington averaged 19.3 points, a school-record 13.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game on the season. He was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Region II Player of the Year and was also the Region II Tournament MVP (averaged 17.7 points and 18.0 rebounds).

Tyler Neal: Neal, a 6-7, 220-pound forward from Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City, is the reigning Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year. He averaged 18.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in helping the Patriots to a school-record 22 wins and to the Class 6A state tournament semifinals. It was West's first state tournament appearance since 1977.

Good stuff, abd. Thanks for putting this together! :cade

there is, however, a lack of experience.

Yeah, I don't expect much out of this team this coming year. But I do think they should be able to win 20+ games the following year if they all come back but Davis.

But but but Newell was offered by Niagra so he can't be any good! <insert sarcasm>

Good run down big.

There is depth. I don't know if there are the guys who have the talent of the guys that left, but I think there are upgrades in other areas. I think we have made a big upgrade in perimeter defense. I think we may be able to have a rotation of atleast 10 guys. I'm all for playing as many guys as possible, ala Mizzou. We'll have to see where the scoring comes from. I suspect our points will come from Pledge, Cam, Fitz, and Cade.

How many years does Blair have to play?

We'll see in 2010-2011! I hope this thread is still around and your still believe in your OP.

No input on the Center?

This. Which is why that our record will not be significantly improved. I think we will see guys playing hard which will be a welcomed change BUT, you will see a lot of youthful mistakes. That cannot and will not be avoided. So, yes, I see some talent on the roster but anyone who thinks this team will far exceed the record of last year's team is going to be sadly disappointed. Guys new to D-1 basketball usually are not great players and we will be relying quite a bit on guys who have never played one minute on the D-1 level. So, if you want to accept the fact this team is not going to be very good, hang around and watch them progress and play hard and think about the better days ahead in the next 2-3 years. But, if you are expecting instant gratification from a record close to that of KU, then you are going to spend a large part of the season complaining.

This is where I am at as well. I am thinking what we saw with Jeff's first season but a little better overall because Jeff isn't the "new" guy (but it is still very similar situations..not making comment on skill comparisons).

Pledger (So.) = Johnson (So.)
Fitz (So.) = Taylor (So.)
Clark (Fr.) = Clark (Fr.)
Taylor (Fr.) = Tony (Fr.)
Newell (Fr.) = Maze (Fr.)
Ahmed (Fr.) = Longar (So.; both were 20 year olds)

To me the keys to next season being "better" than Jeff's first season are:

(1) Can Cade have the kind of impact all season that Nate had (down the stretch), or will it be more like Neal (who was hurt most of the season)?

(2) Is the new transfer PG going to be better than Chris Walker?

(3) Can the two JUCO's come in and make a significant difference immediately?

If all three things can happen, then I think we can probably get to .500 in conference and have a winning record overall.

This is clearly an abd setup to complain about Capel. I look at that roster and its talent level and I think making the NIT would be a significant overachievement.

Our point guards are a freshman and a transfer that was a good (not great) low major player. I would think both are going to be below average at the Big 12 level.

Shooting guards/small forwards are again either decent (Cade) or new...to be good here it is Cam Clark playing at freshman of the year level or somebody playing much better than they did last year.

At the post Washington looks like a undersized but hard working guy, Fitz is going to have to make significant improvement (particularly on defense) and freshman.

A realistic expectation is the bottom third of the Big 12 and an overall record of about .500...however at least this team should try hard and be competitive.

If you get to .500 in the conf. You have a really good shot at the NCAA tourney... Now we will need a pretty decent non-conf to go along with it...

Admittedly, that is with everything going right and also while wearing crimson-colored glasses. If anything, it is certainly a retort to the abd setup...although I think that there is some truth to what he is saying.

An abd setup? Have I done something like that before?

This has "setup" written all over it.

Really?
