Mulkey good but when Griner is gone

Lol, I have to agree with others, Baylor won't even have a denect post player next year, I see a team that will be taking mostly jump shots.

Haha boy was I wrong, Hello Davis and Cave....

no doubt Mulkey has made Baylor the top program in the big 12.

Yes and anyone who tries to argue differently looks a fool.

I've said it before but I admire competitors. Mulkey is a competitor. She wants to win at everything. That's probably why she's divorced because either her husband wasn't competitive enough or not good enough to ever beat her (lol). I always thought Sherri was a competitor too but the last few years makes me wonder if she's lost the hunger to win. I wondered the same about Stoops and he proved me wrong. Hopefully Sherri can too.

Next year will be a rebuilding year for Baylor, no doubt.

However, Mulkey was already highly successful before Griner ever played a single game for Baylor. Mulkey will continue to be highly successful after Griner is gone.

Baylor, during the 6 year time frame PRIOR to Griner....

- 6 appearances in the NCAA tournament

- Nationally ranked every single year(#11, #5, #10, #19, #12, #5)

- averaged 27.5 wins per season(probably better than any other Big 12 school)

- 4 appearances in the sweet 16(probably more than any other Big 12 school)

- 15 total wins in the NCAA tournament(easily more than any other Big 12 school)

- at least 1 win in the NCAA tournament every single year(can any other school in the Big 12 make this same claim?)

- 3 straight seasons without any opponent shooting over 50% in ANY game

- and, oh yeah, a national championship

What you think about Mulkey Showing her True Colors.

There is UCONN and ND, then there is Baylor and then there is the rest of NCAAWB.

I'm glad it's not us playing ND. They have some really good athletes with skill.

Sims gave ND a good game for 33 minutes. Baylor just didn't have anyone else with ND-type talent and skill.

Have to agree with you Norm. Notre Dame is obviously at/near the very best.

I'm watching A&M right now, and keep thinking that is very unfortunate that we were unable to sign Courtney Walker from Edmond. She is terrific. In Oklahoma we seem to have signed mostly girls from the small classes. I watched Chelsea Dungee some this year and in her class (2A), she is bigger than most other players. That will totally change in college. I wonder if that will effect her play much?

About Baylor. It will be interesting to see how Baylor does next year. Nina Davis has been their 2nd best player, but has had an enormous advantage due to the way teams have had to cover Sims. The announcers have pointed out several times that she never has to face double teaming due to Sims presence. Again, it will be interesting to see what they are able to do next year.

Yep. I especially like that freshman guard. ND may very well have the better athletes but UConn has the basketball players. Everyone they put out there is rock solid. If things play out it will be a great final. Hopefully the girl from ND is okay.

Boy Jefferson is a blur.

The only bad thing about the ND/Baylor game, was the Irish didn't win by 40. That would have made me very happy.

The Irish have some really solid fundamentally sound kids. Great rebounders, and finishers on the glass. The do a nice job of moving the ball on offense. Little dribbling and excellent team play. If it is UCONN and ND in the finals, it will be a classic.

I think most of the players that are signed from smaller schools play on elite AAU teams. I think that watching them compete against other elite players from around the country is where the decision to offer a scholarship is made, not whey they watch them compete against other 2A or 3A players.

I think you are right on. Watching Dungee live in the state tournament, she was so much better than her competition, it didn't do her justice. Competing against like quality players will tell you just how good she will be at the next level. I take it she plays even up with other elite kids.

When we have played UConn, a lot of folks say that it just shows that we aren't all that good. We haven't beaten them, and they tend to win fairly big: 13, 16, and 18 in Norman, worse in Storrs. But, when we watch them in the Elite Eight, they are beating some pretty good teams by that amount or more. Same with ND. But, we are 2-3 against the Irish.

We weren't the ones who selected her for the U-16 team. That came after tryouts with a lot of pretty good kids.

Why does ESPN still have a photo up of Diggins? I know i do but they should be different.

There seems to be a disconnect between the people who write the stories and the people who pick what picture to put with the stories.

Almost forgot Muffet's comments after Hypocrite U being hit with probation a couple of years ago. I'm sure this victory by her team was extra sweet tonight!

Lady Irish want to return to national championship game

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) -- The only place where Notre Dame coach Muffet McGraw is lowering expectations after back-to-back appearances in the national championship game is in how she believes the Fighting Irish will begin the season.

"I think we're going to take some lumps early," she said. "When you have freshmen who are going to be playing a lot of time, which we will have, there are going to be ups and downs."

The Irish lost seniors Devereaux Peters, Natalie Novosel and Brittany Mallory from a team that lost 80-61 to Baylor in the title game a year after letting a late lead slip away in a six-point loss to Texas A&M in the championship game. Not many outside of South Bend are expecting the Irish to make a third straight championship game appearance.

But McGraw, entering her 26th season as Notre Dame coach, believes she has the talent to make another deep run in the NCAA tournament.

"We don't want to lower our expectations. We just want to rise to the challenge," McGraw said.

The Irish are led by first-team All-America guard Skylar Diggins, whom McGraw said could be tested at times as she adjust playing with younger players.

"Because she's going to be the veteran leader among a lot of really young leaders that haven't really needed to do it before. So that's going to be another challenge for her, to manage her frustration this year," she said.

Diggins won't have to do it all on her, though. The Irish also return starting guard Kayla McBride and forward Natalie Achonwa, who was the sixth player last season. The key is finding the right mix of players to fill in around them, McGraw said.

"I think we have a lot of possibilities. There are a lot of people who are going to emerge. And we're waiting for them to separate themselves," she said.

The Irish will do it under some difficult circumstances, opening the season against Ohio State and playing defending national champion Baylor at home on Dec. 5. McGraw was asked Tuesday whether her team has gotten over the loss to Baylor in the championship game.

"No, we have not, and I think for a lot of reasons -- not the least of which is what happened after and what came out after. It really made it harder to swallow," she said.

The NCAA put Baylor on three years of probation Wednesday after an investigation turned up hundreds of impermissible telephone calls and text messages sent to prep recruits by coaches and assistants on the men's and women's basketball teams.

But the Irish are looking ahead now and like McGraw, Diggins isn't lowering her expectations.

"It's the same expectation every year. It hasn't changed. I expect us to perform at a high level," she said. "I expect us to compete with the best of the best. And in the end, I expect us to be in the position that we were last year, with hopefully a different outcome."
