National Prep Showcase (Jarion Henry)

Compare the roster next year with the 2002 roster. Not much difference.

Ummm.....

White > Grooms
Hollis > Pledger
Ere > Cam
Ace > Osby
M'Baye > Brown

I'll give the "next year" squad the advantage of M'Baye over Brown, even though we don't know that he'll start, and we don't know how good he'll be. Brown took OU's defense to the next level, so just b/c he wasn't a great scorer, doesn't mean he couldn't play.

Benches are probably pretty equal. Selvy and Fitz. Detrick (I think) and Blair/Newell. To say there is not much difference though is crazy.

I think it is a bit early to say the teams will be comparable; however, the only player match-up that I will definitely agree with you on is that Hollis Price is better than Pledger. Unless Pledger improves a lot it really isn't even close. In my opinion Hollis Price is one of the top 10 guys to play at OU in the Sampson/Capel Eras. Right now Pledger is not. He might not even be one of the top 20.

I get the rest of your comments but I don't think you can say it with much certainty. With that said, I really don't see how you can say White is better than Grooms. That may and perhaps is even probably accurate but we have not remotely seen enough of Grooms to say White is definitely better. I am also not conviced that Ebe Ere is better than Cam Clark. I personally think Clark will ultimately be better than Ere or at least hope so (and I mean no disrespect to Ere he was good player). I also don't know how we can say Ace is better than Osby. I just haven't seen enough of Osby to make a fair comparison. I will say Ace was playing great the last half of his senior year. Finally, I have never scene M'Baye play so I can't possibly say who is better between Brown and M'Baye. I will say Brown played his role exceptionally well but it seems to me that M'Baye might be able to do what Brown did and a little more. M'Baye might have a little trouble on the defensive end because 214 is light for a 6'9" player but I don't recall Brown being exceptionally heavy and I expect M'Baye to add 10lbs this year if not more. I know I would trying to put weight on the guy if I were Kruger.

I also think the bench is going to be better next year with the only concern being the front court. Hield, Hornbeak and Henry are guys I am looking forward to seeing. They will be young but they are talented Neal is going to be a solid bench player at OU and he might surprise and work his way into being a starter (I don't expect that but who can say at this pont). If Fitzgerald becomes a bench player he is going to be the best offensive forward coming off the bench that I can recall at OU. Fitzgerald has his flaws as a player (defense and rebounding) but the guy can score points with the best of them. He didn't make honorable all Big XII for nothing. Finally, I cannot stess enough what a luxury it will be to have Blair as the backup pg (assuming Grooms is the clearly better player). Very few teams have a backup point with 2 years of d-1 staring experience. To be able to rely on a backup point means your starter is always fresh and the rare times when you have foul trouble shouldn't become a disaster.

Manute Bol could get his shot off anytime he wanted to. Doesn't mean I want to make him my shooting guard. :facepalm

I understand your position perfectly. You believe that if the kid can do something well in practice. That would be good reason to assume that he couldn't do it a game. And on the other hand, if the kid has never demonstrated the ability to do something else in practice. That, obviously, would be reason to believe that he would excell in that area.

In your opinion Price was a top 10 Sampson/Capel era player? Jesus Christ, way to go out on a limb. That's about as bold as calling Pledger a top 10 Kruger era player.

Given his overall time and consecutive FF and E8 appearances, probably the best player in that era and arguably Top 5 in Tubbs/Sampson/Capel era. My list:

#1 Wayman
#2 Blaylock
#3 Price
#4 Griffin
#5 King

Pretty debatable though.

Maybe the order is debatable, but I think it's pretty easy to come up with a top 5 players. Hollis Price is the best shooting guard to ever play at OU. At least during my lifetime.

No way I rank Blaylock and either Brent Price or Hollis Price above Blake Griffin.

With respect to my commment that Price was a Top 10 Sampson/Capel era player I think it was a very fair comment. I would not rank Hollis Price above Ryan Minor or Eduardo Najerra. With Blake Griffin, Eduardo Najarra and Rayn Minor the highest I can possibly rank Price is 4th; however, I think you can make legitimate arguments about some other guys being better than Hollis during the era I referenced. Corey Brewer, Willie Warren and TMG are three guys that immediately come to mind as potentially better than Hollis Price. I liked Hollis Price better than WW and TMG but popularity does not mean a guy is a better player. I think Price falls in a ranking somewhere between 4-10 depending on who is making the list.

Griffin is the #1 player in OU history and it's not really close. I know some would say Wayman and I would have too until I saw Blake step on to the court and dominate in the NBA and saw our team become a 13-18 joke immediately upon his departure.

I can understand putting Brewer on that list. But anybody that would rank WW ahead of Hollis has lost their mind. Same with TMG, though he was a pg, so it's a moot point.

Willie Warren. :facepalm

It is pretty unfair to compare Willie to a four year player. Willie had the potential to become one of OU's greatest players; however, his final season was a failure due to the ankle injury and apparent conflicts with tmg.

I am not arguing for Willie as one of OU's best, but he has recieved an unfair amount of criticism.

He might have had the potential. Doesn't matter. Potential has no place in this discussion.

As for him receiving an unfair amount of criticism.....that is your opinion. I personally think he deserved everything he got.

For what little it's worth, my vote for best player of the Sampson era is Hollis Price. Najera and Minor behind him, probably in that order, and Brewer 4th, but a clear notch below.

I would find it almost impossible to choose between Hollis and Mookie if I ever had to.
