NCAA source: "Unprecedented" penalties against Penn State

by this logic if he had driven a truck in the theater and killed 20 people .. trucks should be outlawed

I thought that we were asked by the site manager to drop this topic. I'm fine with that. So, please, don't brand me with your inability for logical thought.

interesting comments from the penn st president on sports center last night

sad that if they didn't accept the decision the alternative would have been multi years of no football

so the NCAA basically blackmailed them (lots think that the ncaa would not have been able to do anything if it went to a full investigation/penn st challenged the ruling)

the ncaa bluffed and the penn st president folded

It sounds like more of a plea bargain than blackmail. The NCAA is pursuing the death penalty, but if Penn State "pleads guilty" and waives their right to appeal, they will be given lessor penalties.

Instead of remodeling the Lasch building and sticking Paterno's statue in storage until this blows over they should be forced to erect his statue in the athletic showers and they can worship him there.

Or they can move the statue into the "Paterno" library as a constant reminder to "keep quiet".

Switzer has just on the Tim Brando show and was a rambling embarrassing bozo.

except that most agree that the NCAA vastly overreached its by laws .. and even the ncaa admits that it could not have acted so fast/in this way with out the penn st approval ..

they gave up their right to do process and appeal

"Most agree"? Totally inaccurate. The usual anti NCAA crowd is against their sanctions while "most" (a very large majority) agree that Penn State still has their priorities out of whack and hitting them hard might be the only way to open their eyes.

Joe Paterno is nothing more than a guy who won some football games and preached his holier than thou message which ended up being nothing more than "do as I say, not as I do".

Football is nothing more than meaningless entertainment. For fans who put the players and coaches on a pedestal or build their identity around something they have nothing to do with the message sent is "Get a life losers".

Sorry, my pity goes fully to the victims with none reserved for the chubby girls in sweats at the student union crying because their average football program had it's bowl privileges revoked.

Penn State was definitely in bind. If they fought penalties they might have forever been branded as the school for sex offenders, but by cooperating they are getting hit harder than they would if they appealed. In the end, they will be hurt for years either way, but they chose the more graceful option.

Unless things have changed since I was in law school (graduated in 93) the NCAA is not a state actor and schools are not entitled to due process. The Supreme Court ruled on this point. Schools do have a right to appeal but that is simply because it is in the bylaws or other governing documents.

King Switzer could sit on the radio and talk about nothing but chocolate chip cookies for an hour and I would listen ... with interest.

He is and will always be one of the best people on the planet and he's never an "embarrassing bozo" IMO. Saying so just shows what little you know about the man and forever places your own character in question.

I would go on to further state that attempting to blemish The King's reputation will earn you quite a few enemies in most parts of this state. putz.

Boca will just say he's glad the backwards, uneducated, bible thumping, fake conservative racist hicks in Oklahoma don't like him for saying that.

Really? I am an atheist Okie with multiple graduate degrees, a successful professional career, and am a die-hard democrat...and I still don't like him as a result of that remark.

Yea, really. This is his thought process. You should pm your response to what he would say to him.

Switzer was a total clown. A buffoon who said people concerned with the victims could "kiss his ass" because the real victims are the players who can't go to bowl games now.

Exactly what did Switzer do to earn this "Best person on the planet" moniker? Switzer is an embarrassment. He is the king of nothing.

If that is what he said, he was wrong. The players are also victims of this tragedy but the real victims are the children.

Edit - so I read the Tulsa World story and when taken in context Switzer said nothing wrong. I don't know if the radio was different but my guess is Boca is just disparaging Switzer.

thank you for the correction

they have the right to the process that is in the bylaws .. and appeal .. but they waved those with the consent agreement ..

which the were basically blackmailed into signing

Seems Barry was saying the people who don't think he cares about the victims are full of crap, and that he does care, as opposed to Boca's account of Barry saying the people concerned about the victims are full of crap. Quite a difference.

“We can’t change what the sorry bastard Sandusky did, right? And everybody can have a knee jerk reaction that I’m not thinking about (the victims). They are full of crap. I am still thinking about them. But I am also thinking about the players that wanted to go to Penn State... That’s the school they wanted to go to. They had nothing to do with this. They had done everything right.”

you're an idiot. plain and simple. There are few people on this planet kind and homey enough to even compare to Switzer. I know this from experience. Disparage him at your own risk because it just makes YOU look stupid.

Switzer is the king of all he surveys. I'd take a bullet for him, and I will attend his funeral if the ceremony is open to the public.

I love the man.

That's not the quote from his Brando interview I'm talking about. He specifically said people who said he wasn't concerned enough about the abuse victims "Could Kiss his ass".

He then went on the marginalize young boys who were;
forced to give a blow job to a 60 year old man
forced to sleep with him with him going down on them and rubbing them
forced to bend over and receive anal sex in the showers
threatened they would never see their mom again if they told anybody

He equated the abuse victims with football players who are;
allowed to keep their academic scholarship
allowed to continue playing football for Penn State
not allowed to play in a bowl game
allowed to transfer immediately to any other school if they choose

It's an idiotic comparison and the clown not only forcefully made it, he said people who did not agree with him could "kiss his ass"

The NCAA got this one right. 5 years of massive penalties is what Switzer should have received and SMU should have received and all of this crap would stop. The NCAA needs to stiffen their penalties right out of the gate and demolish infractions where any connection to the coaches or administration can be made.
