New 2014 rivals rankings updated

I think we end up with both of them in the end.

Can you elaborate on why you feel that way?

No insider info, just I think and feel too many factors are in OU's favor. Buddy and Sunrise with TumTum. Ou has been on him awhile. Mitchell, Ou was in before the whole nation took notice. Close to home. Etc.

OSU and TU are also both close to home, and he has family connections with both. Depends on what kind of engineering he wants to do, as OSU and OU/UT have different ones.

If he was wise he would pick Petroleum, as it pays far more on average than the others with more job opportunities, and OU has a top 5 program in that. TU's isn't bad, and OSU is just starting their program in it.

I'd feel a lot better about him if both his parents hadn't gone to OSU.

If he indeed wants to get into energy, he should go to either OU or TU. Both have great energy engineering programs. I work for a large energy company in Tulsa...and from my perspective, petro or chemical are prob his best bets....and both OU and TU have great programs in each.

Speaking as a Petroleum Engineer that graduated from OU, It will be insanely difficult for him to do that and play basketball

Dave Seiger maintained a 4.0 in engineering (I think EE) and started on the basketball team.

Speaking as a Petroleum Engineer, I never felt like I was overloaded. I would spend time in between classes doing homework in the library with other PEs so I rarely had a lot of stuff to do at home.

agree here. I had a baseball player in my classes that maintained a higher GPA than most the class.

out of all the engineering majors, I think petroleum is the easiest. That's not to say it's easy, but compared to the others I think we got it pretty good of return on investment when you consider investment hours spent on studying

Well, wouldn't it be that if someone is smart enough to be a petroleum engineer or a doctor or lawyer, or a butcher or baker or candlestick maker or whatever it is that they want to be. Then, the study to be that shouldn't be all that much of a challenge for them. It becomes difficult when people start after things that they really aren't smart enough to do.

Solomom may be plenty smart enough to play ball and do well in whatever field of study that he wants.

I'm not sure smarts has an awful lot to do with it. I've met some engineers who were awfully dumb. I think that mostly it is about finding what fits your abilities and interests. If you're doing what you want putting in extra work won't seem like such a chore.

Your observation of dumb engineers can be readily explained by the understanding that even the smart people may have a high but narrow band of intelligence. I am aware of guys smart enough to get us to the moon. But, yet, unable to change out their own car battery.

Lourawls Nairn #61

Mitchell Solomom #72

Heard this past week... If it were solely up to Solomom, he'd already be committed. But both parents are osu (who got a good committ yesterday) people.
Hopefully they don't force him somewhere or I think he'll be a sooner.
