New softball thread

This question is out of left field, well really 2B. What happened to Tyler Lucas? I notice that she's not on the roster this year.

I was wondering the same thing myself. Tyler just disappeared from softball after last spring. She is at OU and is on the directory. You never know what causes a player to just leave the team.

Another player that we were expecting a lot from last year was Maggie Ham. She vanished from the program before the season started.

I hope the rpi doesn't mean much in softball. It shouldn't. It makes no sense.

#13 Oklahoma
#22 Baylor
#24 Kansas
#28 Texas
#88 Texas Tech
#113 Iowa State
#139 Oklahoma State

Now, Texas swept Kansas at Lawrence. That challenges the rpi. Texas Tech took two of three from Kansas in Lubbock. Kansas did sweep OSU in Stillwater. At least, that series did go according to the rpi.

Curiously, Baylor, #22, did lose one in Stillwater.

Kansas hasn't won a game all year against a good opponent. The only reason that I can see that they might be ranked so highly is that they did go to Florida for their preseason schedule as opposed to California. Kansas was 11-2 in FLorida, losing to Florida and Chattanooga. But, they were beating teams like Liberty, Mercer, Illinois State (twice), Stony Brook, Sienna, North Florida, LaSalle, and Stetson. They did take two of three from Chattanooga. They really played nobody other than Florida, and lost that one. But, they played in Florida. The rpi really ranks the SEC teams highly.

I totally agree with you, however, you never know what the committee might use. KU has a good record and that brand new ball park.

I agree! And that's why we really can't afford to lose any more during regular season. We might survive having a single loss.

I see that it is raining in Lawrence. Hopefully, we can get a game in.

The Yahoo weather site is showing 55% chance of rain at 7:00. We need to run-rule them and get it over with.

I agree - I also think it is time for OU to renovate Marita Hynes to stay ahead in the arms race. The softball teams sells out the reserved seats to season ticket holders each year. They were turning away fans at the Baylor series.

I think it's been the plan to renovate/expand for a few years now but the high dollar athletic/academic projects are ahead. If the program had a major donor, it could probably be accomplished almost immediately!

Chamberlain
Pendley
Miller
Self

Kansas was rather fired up during introductions.

Gray day. I can't see dark clouds.
Chamberlain hits a slow grounder to short
Shelby fouls to short
Erin flied to center
Nobody hit it hard
The TV view is from behind home plate. The pitcher looks like she is throwing soft stuff. We took a lot of pitches.

Kansas is in orange jerseys for cancer awareness.

Walk
Popped bunt to third
strikeout on changeup
foul to catcher

0-0 after one

Self flies to right
Paige grounds to pitcher
Casey walked
Ellis grounds to short
Still no hard hit balls

Kansas had two conferences on the mound in that inning. Apparently, Houghton opens well and finishes wild. She is a freshman from Savanna.

Paige walked the leadoff hitter again
sacrifice catcher to first, runner to second
foul to left
stikeout, looked like a changeup

after two 0-0

Third inning--thus far, I don't think KU looks like a hitting team. Paige has had some control issues.

Wodach walks on four pitches
Two more mound conferences, and Kansas pulls Houghton. Really? New pitcher is Pille.
Pendley doubles over the head of the CF, Wodach to third
Lauren walks the bases loaded
Shelby sacrifice fly to left 1-0
Line drive to right, Pendley to third, two out
Stolen base by Lauren
Self strikes out
1-0

Pendley and Miller hit the ball hard.
Pille seems to throw harder than Houghton.

Foul out to left
strikeout swinging, on changeup off the hands
Pop to short
1-0 after three
the second KU batter killed a foul ball, the best hit they have had.

fourth
Parker hits it off the right center wall, single, Arnold for Parker
Casey popped to third
Ellis popped foul on a check swing
Arnold out stealing second

That is two innings in a row with a good start and a weak finish.

Swinging strikeout
Lined out to Short, hardest hit all by KU
Walk on four pitches
Fouls out to left
1-0

KU's Pille must have some pretty good stuff today. Seems to getting a lot of called strikes on our gals...

Fifth
Wodach popped weakly to pitcher.
Nicole walked
Lauren walked on four pitches, none close
Shelby singles to center, Nicole scores, Lauren to second.
Erin strikes out
Kady pops foul to catcher

Walk,about a ten pitch walk
Home run, game tied

Sooners let KU hang around with lackadaisical offense, then in the bottom of the 5th a walk followed by a HR makes a tie game.

2-2, 2-out bottom of 5.

Sixth
Parker walks
Casey fouls to second
Missed a couple, but OU doesn't score.

I'm watching tornado clouds and listening to sirens.
