2 relief appearances is hardly the same as throwing 400 pitches in less than 30 hours.

Osorio wasn't pitching anywhere near her best either. One thing we do know, Paige gave up a grand slam. That's really the bottom line.

Finally, you should have more confidence in Pendley. She couldn't have done worse.

Gasso has openly said that she was concerned with pulling Pendley from SS at that juncture of the game. The other thing we don't know is how Pendley's sprained ankle would have reacted to pitching.

There were several things to consider. First, Pendley had not pitched well against a quality team. Secondly, Runyon had faced Paige eight times in the Super-Regional at that point, and had yet to hit the ball out of the infield. She had a couple of foul pop outs, about three popouts, a grounder to first, and a strikeout. In fact, in the previous inning, they had pinch hit for Runyon because she just simply couldn't hit Paige. The last out of the first game was a bases loaded strikeout----of Runyon. Runyon was about zero for the last seventeen, eight of which were weak outs against Paige. So, they have to leave her in because she has already been pinch hit for once. LUCK. She hits a home run.

I understand that was her only hit in the NCAAs until the third game of the CWS.

You are dead on Syb. Runyon was clueless to Paige until the home run.

Past performance may have some merit but, if Curry has missed his last 10 3-pointers in a row, I still want him taking the last shot if we are down by 2 points in the final seconds. The same with Chamberlain, if she struck out 5 times in a row against a pitcher, I still want her at the plate in the bottom of the 7th with the bases loaded if we are down by 3 runs.

Difference is the hoop is exactly the same every shot Curry misses, he doesn't have to figure out what the hoop is doing, it's mind over self. Runyon had to figure Paige out. I don't think she ever did.

My guess is that Runyon didnt have her figured out, but that Paige slipped and threw her a fat one.

You got it exactly right, j2d2. Paige's pitch was right down Peach Street, and with little-to-no movement. I think it was the only time she grooved a pitch that entire game.

I have no doubt that Paige was the right choice for that situation, even though she was obviously tiring after throwing so many innings. It's counter-productive to second guess Gasso for not pulling Paige and inserting Shelby at that point. Paige is absolutely our best pitcher, even under those circumstances. Things don't always work out, and the world is not perfectly round, either.

+1

Runyon had not only been zero for the Super-Regional and had been pinch hit for in the previous inning, Runyon had been zero for four in the 11-1 win over Washington that got them to the Supers. Her last hit had been in the previous game. In her last at bat of a 5-0 game, she had hit a grand slam. Thus, she had two grand slams in a row with a zero for twelve streak in between.

Lauren is off to the Florida - it looks like she has signed with the USSSA Pride.

I am growing curious about Chestnut. She wasn't rated as highly as some of the others. But, she seems to have it together. We could use a lot of talent with Shelby, Lauren, Jessica, and Cassie moving on.

Finney looks like Paige Parker, ver. 2.0. A threat at the plate, perhaps a dominating pitcher... sweeet!

I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in the Oklahoma players' rankings. They are seldom ranked high enough. I don't think Kady Self or Erin Miller were highly rated. Callie Clifton in this class as well as Chestnut are probably deserving of being ranked.

Shelby singled to right on her first at bat as a pro. She led off and is playing second. They got the first two on, but didn't score.
Lauren led of the second with a single to right. She is the DH. batting sixth.

Shelby led of the third with a double and scored on a sac fly with the bases loaded for the first run. Lauren was walked to load the bases. DelPonte was walked to force in a run. So far, OU is 3-3 with a double and a walk. Pride leads 2-0. in the third.

Pride lineup:
2B Shelby Pendley
RF Kelly Kretschman
SS Madison Shipman
3B Andrea Duran
1B Gionna Disalvatore
DP Lauren Chamberlain
LF Brigette Del Ponte
C Megan Jo Willis
CF Breja'e Washington

Fourth inning: Shelby doubled to left center after the leadoff hitter, Washington, had walked. Washington scored. Shelby has her first rbi. Kretschman fouled out to second. Shipman grounded to short. Shelby still at second. Duran popped to second. Shelby left stranded. 3-0.

Fifth: Disalvatore grounded to short. Lauren fouls out to third on a 3-0 count. Del Ponte popped to short.

With two outs in the fifth, Cat Osterman allowed her first two hits, back to back home runs by Kenney and Quiocho. It is 3-2 after five.

Sixth, after Shelby's double, they changed pitchers, and nobody has a hit off the new pitcher. But, with two outs, Shelby drew a walk. Then, Kretschman homered to right, a two-run shot. 5-2. Shipman flied to center.

Thus far, Shelby and Kretschman have three hits each. Lauren has one. Lauren and Shelby have a walk. That is ALL. Shelby is 3-3. Kretschman is 3-3. Lauren is 1-2. The rest of the team is like zero for sixteen.
