Next season

Except he'll be playing significantly more minutes this season.
I don't think he'll be playing many more minutes. Lattin was a foul-prone 5, and McNeace was the guy to replace him. All that changes this year is McNeace gets the start....and the fouls that come with it.

I wonder if Jamuni could somehow get another year or two of eligibility.

I think by year 6 or 7 people would start spelling McNeace right

He averaged 18mpg, 6.8ppg, & 5.4rpg. My guess is he's around 28mpg ,9.5ppg, 6.5rpg.

Also on Muni.... can Manek and Doolittle play the 3/4 together? If not, less minutes for Muni. Did Polla develop much and earn court time? if not, less minutes for Muni.

A lot of factors here.

I think 6-8 wins in conference sounds about right. The conference is down pretty much across the board this year, so we should be able to defend our home court reasonably well.

I think Muni averages something like 10 and 8 with 2 blocks. He's improved dramatically every year, and there's no reason to think he won't get better again as his role expands.

Kruger brought these grad transfers in to keep us afloat in a year with severe roster upheaval. Hopefully we can stay respectable, and I think we will.

The important thing is the development of Manek and Bienemy. Hopefully Manek has a 2nd team all-conference type of season. He's certainly got that type of talent, he just needs to improve on what was overall a much better freshman year than anyone expected when we signed him. We need Bienemy to be a player. Just show flashes of a guy that can develop into a quality starter, and start getting him big minutes by the end of the year.

Some talent still on the roster, better team chemistry(hopefully) and better team defense(hopefully) will lead to a decent season. I think we improve as a TEAM as the year goes on.

I think OU is in a similar situation to what OSU was last year and they wound up a bubble team a win or two away from being in the tourney. They had Carroll who is basically James with a little more length, senior transfer PG, solid role players at the 2, 4 and 5 and a few guys off the bench who could contribute a little. They played hard on D though not always well and crashed the boards pretty well even though they lacked real size. That is what this year's Sooner team looks a lot like, will need to get after it on D and rebounding and they should be competitive against anyone most nights.

I think that is a good point... if it was this years conference, OU would be worse off than they were this year. I think OU finished last in the conference standings this year.

But... TCU lost everyone. Baylor has an entire new roster... Texas Tech lost everyone.... OSU lost everyone... ISU lost an all-conference player.

I think 9-9 is completely reasonable. I think 7-11 is the bottom unless we have significant injuries.

I would be really surprised if we lost more than two homes games and didn't make up for it with at least one road win. Every team in the conference but Iowa State won at least one road game last season.

I think he meant if Doolittle and Manek were guarding on the perimeter full time, there would be more drives to the bucket and more opportunities for Muni to foul - limiting his playing time. If you think about it that way, it is possible he could get in more foul trouble as OU switches everything from 1-4 on the perimeter, which means Doo and Manek have to guard the opponents best 1v1 offensive player, whenever the other team wants to exploit their matchup. I wish we'd hedge, rotate and recover, but that's not what LK is teaching.

He does do that with the 5 man. If you hedged with guards there'd be way too many pick & pops, then drives off that you would get destroyed. Just about every team switches 1-4.

Interesting thread with lots of diverse opinions, but everyone has a pretty low ceiling - mostly figuring a .500 conference finish and a first round NCAA exit is about as good as OU can do.

I'll be the sunshine pumper, fan boy, OU homer, unrealistic fan...........

I believe OU will be better than last year and finish above .500 in conference. Here is why:

* OU will be better at the 5 - Muni (better every year) and Polla, who I think will make a big jump as he gets accustomed to the speed of the college game. He did grab six rebounds in like 4 minutes against KU. I like his size and footwork and believe he will be more than serviceable. I know, most of you are down on Polla, but I think he will be better next year. Muni will average 10 points and maybe 7 rebounds. That's good.

* Chemistry will improve - it virtually has to. Blame it on Trae, McGusty, Shepard, James, Lon, whoever, it was bad after Stillwater last year. I believe that was the watershed moment for OU last year. Yes they beat KU a few days later, but the remainder of the season was mostly a disaster. I love graduate transfers as they bring maturity as much as talent. Think about the guys OU has had in football at WR over the last three or four years. Consistent producers without having to be the star. I think Reynolds and Caxlite will bring this energy (both mental and physical) to the team.

* Offensive options will be better. Lost your best offensive player, but there will be more options next year. James and Odomes - two seniors who need to, flatly, play better. I think they both do some things very well and are limited in other areas. I think LK uses them more effectively next year. I believe James leads the team in scoring and Odomes will be OU's version of Andre Roberson, with a little more scoring punch. There were times last year where I wanted OU to clear out for Odomes much like Sampson used to clear out for Nolan Johnson. If Odomes gets to his left hand - he can really score around the basket. It's too late for him to use his right hand, but just be one-handed, use his big frame and long arms and be an offensive threat in some sets. If your opponent switches, like OU does, then switch until Odomes gets their worst perimeter defender and let him go to work. James tried, to often for me, to be a driver. I love him as a standstill shooter, but I would want to limit his dribbling - like no more than 2 dribbles.

*Manek and Doo - both should be better. Manek will be in his second year and Doo will be in his "second" full year. Players make their biggest jump (generally) between year one and year two. Manek benefitted a bunch from right-on-the-money passes from Trae last year - he will need to be more creative this year, which I think he can do. Don't know what happened to Doo on offense last year, but he was a guy who scored 28 at Texas as freshman. He can score and I think he will get his mojo back.

Okay, I know this is riddled with speculation and conjecture, girded by hope and prayer and bathed in optimism, but I plan to be right in early March of 19. Come on, who is with me!

TCU did not lose everyone. They lost two (good) players.

Like i've said before, i'm optimistic.

I think we will be better. At least winning 20 games. We have two VERY veteran guards coming in as transfers that I feel will be better than Shepard and McGusty were for us. I think with the improvement of last year's players, plus what I believe to be a very talented and promising freshman coming in, we may just surprise a lot of folks!!
