No, he doesn't. He kind of shuffles his feet a bit, but the rule doesn't require that the defender has his feet planted. He was in position long before the guy with the ball got there.

Sorry, I'm not buying. That was clearly a charge.

Any official worth his salt would have called that a player controlled offensive foul. It was ignored because the official underneath the basket wanted to "let the players decide the game." We see it all of the time. The difference is that most of the calls and no-calls aren't that obvious. Even if it was not a charge, a block should have been called.

The Big 12 is reviewing the final minute of that game. I'm glad, because Mark Whitehead, Tom O'Neil and Bert Smith did not do themselves proud in the way they handled the final few minutes, that also saw a clear-cut fifth foul on Withey go to Young.

Wow. THAT is the play that so many are upset about? Good no call IMO. It's close. Maybe he was there in time and set. Maybe, as boca said, it was a little closer than that. Rather than call it wrong, if ever there is a time to let it go as a no call, it's on a play like that.

That is FAR from a sure thing charge though.

You have to call something on the shot OR you can't pocket your whistle on that play and then decide to call the foul a couple seconds later. If you call the second one with very little contact then why not make a call on the collision?

No surprise that KU got the benefit of poor officiating. It's been that way since the Big 8 days.

But, it's sort of ironic that KU once got bent-over by poor officiating when they were getting ready to beat Texas in football back in '04 or so. I can't prove it, but I suspect that some of the calls in that game were "influenced" by the notion that a UT win was "good for the conference" (BCS money).

The problem is not just the foul they didn't call (which was clearly a charge -- the ISU defender was already in position when the KU guy was still up at the top of the key), but the foul they did call immediately after.

I think Mangino had it right in the video. Somebody on this site should be able to alter the video to have him say "NCAA" or "Big 12" instead of "BCS". LOL!
