It suffered cardiac arrest when Kelvin Sampson left for Indiana. Blake Griffin performed a few successful rounds of CPR, but now we're flat lining.

It's really hard for me to come to this realization as my formative years were ones during which the basketball program was better than the football team. I was born in 1985, so the first time I actually saw OU play good football was 1999. Prior to that, it was all basketball for me. As a result, OU basketball has always been more important to me than football. However, all our tradition and success are relics of the past. I can't ever see us recovering from the Capel era.

BMS,

That is a perfect analogy. Truly, perfect.

Maybe I was being a bit hyperbolic, but it's going to take a long ass time for us to get back to how good we were for the majority of the Sampson era. Jeff Capel has brought this program to its knees, Tony. We don't play hard, we don't defend, and we can't score. Furthermore, the coaches don't care, the players don't look like they care, and the fans sure as hell don't care anymore.

Here's what I posted on the other thread. Think it rings true in this thread also:

As much as people complain about how capricious college basketball is, this atmosphere works in OU's advantage. Its not college football where it is harder and normally takes longer to rebuild a program. As bad as OU is, it can always be turned around, and faster than some might expect.

Agreed.

This might sound ridiculous, but not ONE of my Facebook friends had any kind of status about this game (or any of the others in Maui). I think that sums up the level of apathy. And yes, the majority of my friends are classmates of mine at OU, where I'm currently a junior.

It's true. Besides the other Capelables at OU I honestly don't know if anyone had any clue we were even going to Maui. 2 years after an Elite 8 bid that's amazing...

Don't you mean delicate Gimp outfit complete with ball-gag? Whatever happened to Zed by the way?
