I came across this while looking for something else and thought I would share. Some of the names in this article will defintely ring a bell with some of you who followed OU in the late 80's. I was a soph in high school in '89 when this was written, so I was familiar with some of the local kids that OU was recruiting but had forgot about some of the other national kids.

Names like Ron Johnson, Orlando Lightfoot (I never realized he was a top 15 player in the country), Webster of course (he was ranked #9 in the country), Deon Thomas (he was also a McD's AA who I really really wanted OU to get), jackie jones, Carl Herrera (was a stud in juco).

Question, didn't Ron Johnson end up signing with OU?? I never remember him playing though. What the story there....anyone remember?

fun article. Great names in there. Really wanted to see Lightfoot at OU, I believe he ended up at Idaho. If memory serves he was pretty good there. Don't ever remember him getting a shot in the NBA. OU had some great athletes then. Jeff Webster, in my view, is the most under-rated player in OU history.

Orlando Lightfoot was a huge loss. He ended up as a 2-time Big Sky conference MVP, and played a lot of years internationally and averaged over 20 ppg games in 8 different season. It sounds like he might be an even better person than he was a basketball player.
