Omega Harris Interview

How is Oklahoma's mechanical engineering program?

I don't know how he would have time to study and complete his projects and labs in an engineering major and be a D-1 player, but that is great ambition and i hope he tries. Why doesn't OU have a 24 hour gym? We need to open one.

I don't know specifically how good the Mechanical Engineering program is, but I graduated a couple years ago in Chemical Engineering, and the new Devon/Exxon buildings are amazing.

The Exxon building has an ocean oil rig simulator that is pretty legit.

I'm not sure what he means by a 24r hour gym. I've read that the players have access to the gym in the practice facility 24/7 via a card key, key pad or some other kind of key.

Yeah, I seem to remember Captain Hotsauce and Calvin Newell playing 1 on 1 at odd hours of the night at the LNC. I'm pretty sure they have 24/7 access.

It seems a lot of people rush to judgement, maybe just maybe his thought process about 24-7 is if I wake at 2am want to shoot around can I by myself or do u have to check in and see. So what has been expressed early on gave him impression that those two made it clear right away. Ijs

Right. 'Open Gym' might mean one thing to one person and something entirely different to someone else.

I remember Kelvin mentioning that it wasn't at all unusual for him to arrive at work at 7:00 AM and someone (Ebi during that terrible slump he had?) would be in the practice gym working on his shot. There's no telling how long he had been there.

Dave Sieger did it with a 4.0

Omega finished with 13 pts, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 7 asst.

I heard it was a hard fought game. I'm going to watch EM/Owasso tonight. Hope Omega has a great summer circuit. Will he be with Atheletes First?

Yes he will, he made the final decision last week. He feels the EYBL is the best exposure if you want to be seen.

Beau Gerber was a Mech E, but of course he didn't play much. The highlight of his career was tossing in a teardrop over DeAndre Jordan's head late in a blowout.

I'm not sure any of OU's programs can be considered good in the context of high major basketball schools. The only programs that are highly rated that I'm aware of are those that most schools don't offer (e.g., Petroleum Engineering). That said, I don't even know what distinguishes most undergrad programs at state schools from one another, the curriculums are so similar.

I had a friend who was ChemE and an athlete, carried close to a 4.0, but he was pretty sharp and managed his time well.

Business, petroleum engineering, weather and law (not undergrad) are all respected programs nationally. Petroleum and weather are top tier regardless of public or private distinction.
