I guess the question is are we happy with 4th in conference and exiting the tournament round 2?
I would definitely not be upset with that but at the same time I'm not pumped up and excited.

I just don't have the same excitement under Lon. I think he is great and is turning around our program but I want to see some top talent considering us and atleast one sign every few years.
Everyone hated capel as did I, but he sure made off seasons exiting because he brought in talent. I still to this day believe that if Lon coaches capels players we would have done really well. I just wish Lon was a better recruiter.

I'll reserve judgement until Coach K has been here long enough to establish OU as a perennial tournament team and surprises some people(I think he will). Then we'll see if the quality of the players he can recruit improve. We're not far enough along in that process to be judgmental I dont think.

I will always take going to the tourney and the excitement of getting a seed and trying to win there over the marginal excitement Capel gave me when he signed TMG or Willie. Just not worth it in the long run.

I am surprised how people expected Kruger to come in and turn around a terrible program at the time within a couple years. I was so pleasantly surprised with how last season went, and have tons of excitement towards the next years with Coach K. I think another solid year of getting to the tourney helps get those bigger recruits, but some of these kids need to see more evidence. We basically have had one good year out of the last 3/4. Especially with our guards potentially putting on a pretty good show, have to think that will draw the eye of a big man, and potentially our next guard seeing how he has coached up our current ones. I didn't expect him to come in and set the recruiting world on fire, heck he might retire from OU having never signed a 5*, but in the days of one-and-done, I might be okay with that. He will get some 4*'s and the way he coaches kids up, we would be an extremely competitive team his entire career here. I'm very happy with the hire, building our program back up on solid ground, and then we can go for the home run with next hire that could pull in the higher recruits and take us over the top again.

Obvously I want Kruger, lol that's not even a question,

I was just saying I wish we could be on more top talent to make things more exciting. In due time I guess, just don't see Kruger ever being able to do that but I hope he proved me wrong

I think we have a good team, we are one top player away from being really good.

We might get lucky once in a while and get a guy like Blake. But the thing is the top talent travels in this area it's going to Kansas or Texas most of the time. Don't get me wrong I would love to see us get a top player every couple of years. But it's not realistic unless we start winning tournament games and getting to sweet 16 and final fours. And get a little lucky and get some star kid in the state like we did with Blake a few years back. We need to continue to get guys that have a high rate of producing. If we have a few more classes like we had last year we'll be competing for conference championships real soon.

I would think we'll be a Final Four team within a year or two. Not sure about this year because it's still a young team. But if we get lucky with a good draw we could get there with the way our guards defend. But by the time these sophomores are seniors we could be among the favorites for whatever conference we are in if the Big 12 no longer exists.

It is difficult to be patient, but the program sure seems to be headed in the right direction after the low-water-mark of 2009-10, when the team lost 9 in a row on the court to end the season, and completed the season 0-18 in the record books after the NCAA vacated wins as part of its penalties against the OU basketball program.

By all accounts the program is now clean. Let's see where the program stands during the 2014-15 season, and beyond.

I don't believe that OU will ever be on the level long term wise with Kentucky, Kansas, Louisville, Duke, etc. But if the Sooners can get to the NCAAs each year, finish near the top of the conference and perhaps every couple of years win the Big 12 and make a deep run in the tourney I would be more than satisfied. This would propel OU into a top 25 program where it was at times under Billy and Kelvin.
