OSU Point new point guard was in trouble at previous school.

Nash is to the 4 what Cam Clark was. OU was pretty good last year with an undersized 4, in theory, there is no reason OSU couldn't make that work too.

Cam Clark hit more 40% of his 3s and stretched the defense. Nash doesn't take 3s because when he used to he shot 25%. The problem with Nash being undersized is that he doesn't have a perimeter game to make up for it.

6'7 and 235lbs isn't all that undersized for a 4. OU has had a lot of 4's that probably weren't much bigger than that over the years, that we won a lot of games with.

I agree that Nash probably doesn't have good range out to the 3 point line. Doesn't have to. He is 20 pounds heavier than Cam, so he should hold up better inside than Cam did. He is certainly stronger. And he shoots it well from 2 point range. The problem is that Ford doesn't really use him correctly, or put him in a position to succeed.

You don't need theory to know that it won't work. You just need history. It doesn't work. Thats why they struggled this year. Nash cant bang down low and he can't defend down low.

Nash will play the 3 a lot more this year bc I would put the guarantee stamp on it that Ford's selling point for Nash to return was that he would play the 3. Only chance he has at playing in the NBA is if he works on being a 3 and he has no shot if they put him in at the 4.

They need post players and they need them bad. Losing Murphy may have sealed Fords fate. They could have been good with him.

Than how did OU have such a good season with a guy (Cam) that was smaller than Nash playing the 4?

Don't tell me it can't work. There are PLENTY of 6'7, 235lb PF's starting on good/solid teams all over the country.

OSU guy been cleared by the NCAA to play right of way. How long will it take for a yes or no for OU guy.

Is this Hickey kid going to be a difference maker for OSU? From what I have read he was kind of average as an SEC point guard.

They have ZERO difference makers on their roster with or without this new kid.

I asked again about this situation today. Optimism remains very high. But, a quick or timely answer is not expected.

It doesn't work for Ford. It can work..It wont work under Fords system. B/c it hasn't yet. They play small ball every year.

How many guys does it take to realize that small ball doesn't work under Ford. The best he can do is barely make it to the ncaa tournament.

He's played Anderson and Obi at the 4. He's played Obi at the 5. He's played Moses at the 5. Franklin at the 4. Williams at the 4. Nash at the 4.

It doesn't work under Ford. If Nash plays the 4 next year...they have 0 chance of making it to the tournament.

Nash was more consistent playing the 4 than playing the 3 on the outside. OSU needs him to score consistently. He won't guard anyone much regardless of where he's playing. So he might as well score.

Burton making it to campus is the biggest deal for OSU. Somebody on the perimeter to allow Phil Forte to get some space

They finished 8th in the big 12 with him playing the 4 this season.

They finished 3rd the year before with him at 3 and Jurick and Cobbins/Murphy starting at the 4 and 5.

So a year later with everyone returning minus Jurick. (and Cobbins) They finished 8th.

And you guys think he should play in the post?

He played way more at the 4 two years ago than you are suggesting.

It would be a major injustice for Anthony Hickey to get his waiver (already done), and TaShawn Thomas to be denied. Hickey was basically kicked off the LSU team so how come he can transfer without sitting out? I think this is good news for Thomas' waiver request. They can't turn down his request to not play for a coach with a history of NCAA violations, whereas they grant a waiver to someone who did enough to be booted from his former team.

LSU announced his dismissal just a month ago and his waiver has already been granted? The holdup for Thomas has already taken too long.

To be fair, you aren't really transferring if you didn't have your scholarship renewed. Right? I'd say if they pull your 'ship, you should be eligible immediately.

In my opinion the reason for losing your scholarship should matter a lot. If you break team rules and get kicked off the team, you should suffer the punishment of sitting out a year. If the coach is a jerk, recruits over you and doesn't honor your scholarship, you should not have to sit out. I realize that leads to some subjective decisions but I would rather have some subjective decisions then see kids not be accountable for poor decisions.

I would say being forced to leave the school you were at is punishment enough in a lot of cases. Any NCAA punishment would still apply. Like the Michigan kid that failed a drug test and was going to have to sit all of next year out. He is going to the NBA instead, but that punishment would have followed him. Like you said, probably too subjective to enforce team punishments, since they wouldn't all be equal.

See Baker Mayfield. Scholarship status doesn't matter.
