OU Announces That Sherri Has Retired

John Ontjes does have OU ties with MBB but he sure has done some really good things at a junior college for the last 12 years.

You would like to think that Joe has known for a while and already has a short list of coaches to pursue. Some of that may have to wait until the NCAA tournament is over for certain schools.

I wouldn't care if the entire staff was gone if I were to keep one I guess it would be CP but not as head coach

Agree. Hire the best coach available, male or female. Let the new coach hire who they want. Hope Coale hasnt made an agreement for them to keep Junior. Texas let Aston go and made a great hire. Hope Castiglione does something similiar.

1. Lisa Fortier
2. John Ontjes
3. Megan Duffy
4. Amaka Agugua-Hamilton
5. Jennie Baranczyk

I doubt Adia Barnes is leaving her Alma Mater for another rebuild job. It would be a great hire though.

OU gonna have to spend SC type $$ or more to get someone to come and fix this mess

Rebuild? If everyone comes back from injuries and the new signees all come in, this is most likely a tourney team next year. I’m not saying ‘we’re back’ but it’s not nearly as bad as it was a couple of years ago. Their is enough talent on the roster to be a mid tier conference team and make the tourney. If they get lucky with a transfer or two (Lord knows they are due), they could be a top 25 type team next season.

Hoping this will begin the rebuilding of a consistent top 3 conference team that qualifies for the tournament year in and year out, and makes an effort to competitively recruit to become a FF team again while pursuing that NC!

This is not a rebuild. There are good players in place and hopefully the incoming freshmen will give a boost. Madi is a presence on the floor that can't be ignored. Robertson is not just a 3 point shooter. She drives the basket and is successful. She had a 22 point game and only 3 of those were from behind the arc. Skylar Vann was getting things figured out and Gregory couldn't be left undefended. We went 9-9 in conference and no one expected that and it was done with 7 players, sometimes only six. Sure, we aren't going to compete for a conference championship next year and people who think that should be the case just don't know the game. But Sherri isn't leaving with the cupboards bare either.

I hope not. He was the most active coach on staff. You people who think CP is a better coach then him crack me up.

If the new coach decides to keep junior, so be it...better than the previous nepotistic nightmare. But his presence will always have an asterisk. He clearly had permission/the green light to be "active". The difference between his game time role versus other assistants since he arrived on the bench was quite obvious. He was "active" when he was a grad assistant and scout team player because his mother allowed it. Assistants with his skill set come a dime a bushel! CParis and JStiles on the other hand were highly skilled at their positions as players, and bring much more to the table . CParis will be the glue that holds that team of players together if she stays, regardless of who the new coach will be. Neither do I see her shoving a player in the back during what appeared to be a reprimand. To the contrary, she will be the one encouraging the player to continue to work hard and go break her records! There's more to the job than x and o.

Yes, but does Courtney plan on staying is a major part of the question -- not just will she be retained.

Was this just something she was killing time doing until COVID stopped ravaging the world or is she finished playing?

I've never really heard of figured it out

I always thought that maybe Sherri was giving her a hand up in coaching just because of the pandemic. If she's through playing, she could be a good coach once she learns the ropes of recruiting and coaching,

When I use the term "rebuild" in this situation, it's referring to rebuilding to a consistent top conference contender with consistent tournament appearances for a run to the FF with the goal of getting that NC! Rebuild the 2002-2010 years! You're right...there are some key components on the team that will be an intricate part of that rebuilding. How the 7-8 of them worked together to win those games at the end of the season was a phenomenal learning experience. You can't buy, recruit or teach chemistry and team positive camaraderie. Players decide they want it and build it. What OU needs immediately is two skilled strong, athletic post players who can rebound, rebound, rebound to be able to compete within the conference before they try to get to the tournament. Hopefully, the new coach will immediately build some relationships with the top OK high school players for starters. There's lots of recruiting work to do.

That's the $64K+ question. I was told that she definitely retired from the WNBA to save her legs for her job overseas where they LOVE her in Turkey. She was the POY in different leagues and consistently made first team honors every year, while averaging a double double every season and the top rebounder every year. Her interviews indicated that she wanted to help with the OU program. Who knows? I guess we'll find out soon.

In my opinion, there isn't another person more qualified to teach forwards and posts than Courtney. She just gets it. Many folks think that just because she's big the rebounds just magically came to her. That's not it. She understood how to read shot angles, how to reposition, and all of those intangibles that are lost on so many folks today. I agree with your point: just because Colton is vocal doesn't mean he is qualified to lead! A lot of that had to do with his gender + him being Sherri's son. How successful was he? Not very, looking back at the past few years.
