What does this this list tell us about the differences between the two sports in recruiting?

2000-2001 Rocky Calmus
2000 J. T. Thatcher
2001 Jeff Ferguson
2002-2003 Teddy Lehman
2003 Antonio Perkins
2003 Jason White
2004 Jammal Brown
2004 Dan Cody
2007 Curtis Lofton
2008 Sam Bradford
2008 Jermaine Gresham
2008-2009 Gerald McCoy
2010-2011 Ryan Broyles
2013 Gabe Ikard

These are Sooners who:
1. Played their high school football in Oklahoma
2. Made All-American in the year(s) listed

It includes two Heisman, one Maxwell, two Butkis, one Bednarik, three Davey O'Brien, one Johnny Unitas, one Outland, two AP Player of the year and one Mosi Tatupu award(s)

By limiting the time frame to 2000 - 2013 we are leaving out out various Selmon's, Watts, Owens, Vessels, Burris, Boydston and on and on and on.

If we go back through Bud's reign it includes four heisman winners from Oklahoma who are Sooners.

Someone please offer a similar list for women's basketball.

Best in state player under Sherri??

Whaley from Ada???

Without doing any research, a couple of Ada girls that come to mind are Caufield and Caton Hill. I will go with Caufield as Sherri's best player from Oklahoma.

Caufield was a really good player but how would you like to have Caton Hill on the roster for next year?

Caton was my favorite player during Sherri's early years. She is still in the top 5. I loved her intensity and smarts. She wasn't a great athlete but she made up for it in other ways. I have a friend from Ada who knows the family very well. He said when Caton was in high school, her basketball coach would regularly have to get Caton to back off as she was physically hurting her teammates. She was a very physical player at OU as well.

Yeah Caton Hill might be the best in state player.

Everything I've seen of Lanesia (sp) Williams might change that assessment though.

Some have said Williams is a PG and others say she is a 2 guard. Not sure what to expect from her.

My point was, Stoops (and Switz, and Bud) is (were) farming in rich bottom land and Sherri is farming in rocky caliche. For Sherri to have been able to come close to matching Bob, Oklahoma would have had to produce that many (and more, I didn't list AA's who went to other schools) All American Women's Basketball players. and it hasn't come anywhere close.

Barry loved to sign the top players in Oklahoma every year but he made a living recruiting Texas. I wish that Sherri would would do the same. Some years Oklahoma might not have anyone to offer but it would be rare when Texas would be void of top D-1 prospects.

Barry also recruited Miami and New Orleans. But, Barry was coming off a time in which none of the SWC schools, the local competition, had ever recruited African-Americans, and he had the rapport and personal experience to take advantage of that. Had we started our women's basketball program at that time, we would have had those advantages. We didn't.
