**********OU-Kansas Game Thread**********

Defensively, I feel about as hopeless now as I did when Capel was here.

Clearly we have a better team than back then, but we can't win many against the Top 4 in the league with our current defensive output.

Defense is going to be rough all year. Hopefully Lattin can come in and be a rim protector for us next season

It would help if our guards could try to stay between their man and the hoop. Looks like our shoes weigh ten pounds some times.

This is what I see and I kinda don't understand it. Our guards are athletic so why can't any of them seem to stay in between their man and the basket?

You guys are so doom and gloom. We had chances to beat a team that has a great shot to make a run at the final 4. and you can do is be negative. Im fine with pointing out flaws.
Not having another big or 2 to help Spangler just kills us. Cam and neal cant be asked to guard 2 future lottery picks. Its not fair and its almost impossible.

When you make shots like they did and Thorpe hit shot after shot towards the end, even the announcers are saying that those are bad shots, except they went in the hole

Not trying to be doom and gloom. I'm happy with the way this team has played this year. I fully understand the lack of size we have and expect to be out rebounded especially against teams like Kansas. What I am having a hard time understanding is why our athletic guards consistently can't stay in front of their man. Makes no sense and I am asking a legitimate question in wondering why they can't do it? Is it poor technique?

Fouling... I think they are over cautious about fouling. They have 1 good guard on the bench and we cant afford to foul. If we do, we wont win the game anyway.

So I think there is a motto of Lets try to give a little of defense so we can outscore them. Not saying that's the best thing, but we are very limited on who we can play off the bench. Bennett is giving us nothing. Jelon, Frank, and neal are it, and 2 of those aren't ready to play major mins.

I understand this argument. But the only issue with your argument is that our perimeter defense is more than just not being able to keep your man in front of us. We still don't know how to defend a ball screen, we are slow on our rotations (which is mostly lack of effort BTW), we are not strong with the ball on rebounds at times, and we simply take too many defensive possessions off.

This team fights, but they CAN play harder on defense. We are almost going to have to play Bennett (I know he is struggling) more to spell Spangler. Depth in the back court shouldn't be an issue as Hornbeak gets healthier. Hopefully, this should allow us to play with a little more effort a little more of the time. That incremental, improved effort on defense may end up being the difference in finishing 7th or 4th in the conference.

You may be right about the foul trouble part but damn our perimeter an on ball D is bad. Got to give more effort or it's gonna be tough to be better than .500 in the league and I think this team is better than that.

I agree with both your guys comments. Something has to be going on... Last years coaches are still here and the same players.

To me, this an effort and lack of length (shot blocking) issue. The effort part HAS to be fixed.
