OU recruiting 2018

A valid opinion if you look at the recruiting results. Recruiting has gotten somewhat better over the last 2-3 years but far from being on par with the top 5 programs in the country which is a requirement to consistently go deep into the NCAA tourney.

With the present recruiting profile Sherri uses I do not anticipate recruiting will get much better. But one can always hope.

No question Sherri is hurt somewhat by the AAU coaching situation in Texas. But when the going gets tough the tough get going. Some Sherri still has that to learn.

Well, after reading your commentary on the men's board, your attitudes aren't exclusively sexist, as I had thought. But, they are still misguided. You don't encourage the AAU situation. You outlaw it.

I see this every year: outstanding recruits mentioning OU early in recruiting and a few with OU in their later choices but NONE who wind up here. Or very, very few.

Yep. Putting the bait in the water, but they just won't bite.

I guess recruiting is pretty tough but IMO you got to hit the road, stay in contact, build relationships. It's been said on here that Sherri doesn't like to recruit..tough that's part of her job..I don't like going to work on Mondays. She better pick it up or the program will fall behind even more.

Some one from the staff went to see 2019 San Jose prospect Haley Jones, I'm sure they stopped in on DeCosta... I think it's pretty good she's still considering OU... I like our chances. I think its a toss up between the talent in California vs the talent in Texas, with Texas being in OU's back yard, Sherri should be getting close to the talent that Baylor and Texas are getting... Getting that pipeline in California is important because every kid can't get in to Stanford, USC is not an elite program, playing time is hard to come by at UCLA, and Cal normally underachieves year in and year out... I would take a chance on a kid playing in the greater LA area vs someone playing in a small city in Idaho, Iowa, or Oklahoma...

I agree that recruiting CA is key. I wonder about the budget. We don't have near the attendance we used to get, but the salaries are higher. Generally, one has to spend money to make money. This is clearly true in recruiting because poor recruiting leads to poor results which leads to lesss ticket sales and donations.

Most of our California recruiting is in the Bay area.

We've had The twins and Drob from the bay area (Aaryn was also born in the bay area) and we recruited Kelli Hayes but she ended up at UCLA... I think we have had the same success in the bay area as we have in LA.. Abi was from LA and in 2010 both Cassie Harberts and Lindsay Sherbert also from LA took official visits to OU...
