How is our recruiting looking this spring? We need some inside help. JUCO's would seem to be high on our wish list. Which of the impressive list of players that we are in on do we have the best chances with?:jcapel

I would classify our recruiting as cloudy at this point in time.
I think the best option at next commit would be Juco Point guard Daniel West and even then who knows. (West is a former Tennessee commit out of high school). James Hale had a recruiting update on him recently and things sounded good for signing him.

Aziz Nidaye is the best option for an impact juco big imo but it is hard to get a read on him since he is playing it close to the chest.

Terrence Jones is the best option for an impact high school big but I think it will be really hard to get off the west coast.

After that there are just a big question mark, I really hope with the seasoning over that some possible targets will come to light in the next couple weeks as right now it seems like a lot of pipe dreams.

I think we're going to be disappointed if we think Aziz will be an impact player initially. He'll have to adjust to the speed of the game and add to that he doesn't have alot of experience and is coming off an injury. If we were to get him, I think the best thing would be to play him as much in cupcake games as possible. As for Jones, will he have the same issues as the McD's aa's have this year. The biggest thing that I think we've added with two recruits we got are better perimeter defense. We can reach alot more shooters with Clark and TJ is a guy that can dog the ball. However will they catch on quick enough.

The PF position is the crucial one. There are going to be few situations where you can play Fitz and Gallon together and we need someone quicker and more athletic to counter their liabilities.

I agree. We need a junior college power forward that is about 6-8, 230, that can rebound and play defense, is mature and does not demand a bunch of shots. I just don't know who that would be, and Jones/Aziz/West don't fit that description.

Sure seems like the JUCO guys that fit almost all of our needs and would seem to provide a definite instant impact Capel isn't openly recruiting. I am sure there is some interest that we dont know about but our track record with JUCOs recently has NOT been stellar.

Juco guys are the only guys available for the most part.

I agree on some reservations on Aziz but the issues is we really don't know who the heck else on the juco front OU is recruiting right now. So based on what we know we have to consider him the biggest juco impact player.

I want a JUCO big man who knows how to rebound and play defense. I dont care if he doesnt make a basket all year.

I shouldn't stereotype Aziz like i do, but if you look at John Riek and Ater Majok, they were both ranked as five star players and in Riek's case, the number one player nationally. Neither of those guys leave the bench at Mississippi State and Uconn respectively. I think recruiting will wind down with a Juco PF, a juco guard, and some attrition from other recruiting rosters of fired coaches.

If we dont sign two post players I think we will be in trouble...Next year we know we only have two guys that are going to contribute...we need two more to push each other for playing time...and also I think you get two just incase one doesnt pan out

I agree. We need Aziz AND a 6-8 banger that can rebound. If we get Aziz, great. But I'm only expecting him to provide some shot-blocking next year. I don't expect him to score at all and I don't expect him to be a great rebounder. I could be wrong. But to me, shot-blocking is one of the simpler things to do for a lot of these 7-foot African players that have not yet developed their overall game.

Thats why I think we still need a 6-8 banger that can defend on the post and rebound. I'm picturing a Marshall Moses, Jameel Heywood type. I know they are not 6-8, but still. I don't/didn't particularly like either of those guys, but they are exactly what OU needs right now. Somebody with some tenacity, anger, toughness and intimidation, because Lord knows nobody was scared of this team this year.

I'd take Daryn Selvy in a heartbeat.

The trouble is Juco ball isn't what it used to be. Prep schools is where kids go with academic or test score issues. There's not many Daryn Selvy's to be had.

you're correct. Now the course is going to prep school, then juco. Alot of kids like Karron johnson and Butter Hobson, guys who'll exhaust there shots at prep schools and then go the juco route. So there are there are those type of juco guys still, but the majority are guys who don't get D1 offers and try to work their ways towards one.

Saw both Cam Clark and T.J. Taylor play in Bi-District playoffs. Both were by far the only real players on their teams, so they were doubled and tripple teamed every time they touched the ball. Both are very good athletes and have ability and alot of potential. However I really don't believe they will be able to make any type of major impact next year. That being said, I just have a sinking feeling that we might be looking at a similar outcome next year.

I'm certainly not counting on any freshmen after the debacle this year, but what did you see in the game that makes you think they won't have an impact?
