OU Softball

So, for those of you who are watching the game, (I'm not, following along on GameTracker) the action seems to have reached a stoppage. I am assuming that perhaps a rain delay is responsible - - anyone confirm?

The score is OU 12 - 0 in the bottom of the 4th inning. Arkansas is batting.

OU scored 41 in three games. The opposition scored 6. Lauren Chamberlain had 13 rbis.

The biggest key of today was that Arkansas committed several errors.

Obviously, Arkansas didn't challenge us too much, due primarily to self-inflicted mistakes.

This OU team, however, needs to step up the level of their play when meeting tougher competition; better teams, like Alabama, will make us pay. Keilani, for example is, IMO, nowhere nearly as dominating as she was in the postseason last year, neither on the mound or at the plate.

For the most part, however, the rest of the team is playing very well. I hope that Keilani can rise to last year's level of play as we go further into the postseason.

Keilani opened the season with no hit shutouts of Stanford and Oregon, both of whom are top twenty programs. Oregon is #4. But, it is about when you are on stride, and when you aren't. This wasn't Keilani's week.

Let's take a look at a couple of other players to get a picture of slumps and streaks. Right now, Brittany and Lauren could hit if the pitcher were throwing golf balls. They are killing the ball. Lauren was something like an 800 hitter with 13 rbis in three games. Did they ever get Brittany out?

A couple of weeks ago against Texas, Lauren was about 0 for 13 and struck out about five times. She couldn't hit the ball out of the infield. Pendley was actually benched for a game. Then, she hit two home runs in the third Texas game. But, Lauren has had some problems in recent weeks. You wouldn't know it this weekend.

Even great players have streaks and slumps. The team that wins has enough great players to overcome those slumps by others. But, you never know what next weekend will bring. Keilani may get her control back and blow away the next team.

Baylor now leads 9 -5 in the 6th inning.

I'll preface this statement by saying I'm not a softball expert by any means. I've seen Baylor hit 2 long fly balls that weren't home runs, yet were over the heads of the Texas A&M outfielder. If I were a coach, I think that would irritate me kind of like serving the ball into the net in volleyball.

Baylor defeats A&M. They play again in about 30 minutes to determine who comes to Norman.

A&M all over Baylor in the second game, 7-0, all seven runs coming off the long ball (4 HRs).

Looking like we better be ready for the Aggies, they are really stroking it!

Spoke too soon... A&M hit another one out of the park to run-rule Baylor in 5 innings.

5 homers... our pitching better be equal to the task.

I'm really hoping we get another shot at Bama in the CWS…yes, I realize we've got to win our Super Regional first. But that series with the Tide from last year still sticks in my craw. I didn't like that team then and I don't like them now. Would be great to get some payback for the way they beat us in last year's series.
