**********OU-TCU Game Thread**********

Looking ahead to TTU, going to need a better performance to win, which I think will happen. Sloppy game, but good teams find ways to win even when they don't play well. Guess that was too negative for some of you posters here...

Spangs is out but a great game from him. 13 points and 16 boards.

Sent from my galaxy s2

I'm so happy we have him for two more years. His presence will take a lot of pressure off of Lattin and Mcnease, giving them time to mature.

Meh. You can come off a bit negative in game threads, but so can I.

Just easy to get frustrated as a passionate fan.

As you said, we obviously need to play better. Hopefully this was a wake up call that we need to be ready to go no matter what is on the front of the other team's jersey.

Tech isn't a must-win, but it would really help with what this team needs to accomplish.

And hopefully Bennett!! He has a lot of upside on defense but needs to learn how to defend the PNR better without extending his knee and getting a foul

Oh no I understand that part. I just thought he was a pretty good ball handler and free throw shooter, which would mean we would want him in the game

Jordan wasn't in the game at the end because he couldn't stay in front of Anderson.

I really just think we were too worried about the stat sheet when we got leads and stopped playing good team offense.

Good to see us step up when we need to step up though.

A win is a win, but I agree with the above poster........ We would get a 10 point lead and then give it away in two minutes. Poor passes and terrible defense.

That. I am negative a lot because I HATE losing and watching Oklahoma lose. I would not be a happy camper if we had lost to TCU at home either. Glad we won a sloppy game and avoided a huge disappointment and hopefully the guys can learn that nothings given in this league that is the best in the nation.

Well, ESPNU, guess TCU will loose a game when Shephard has double digit rebounds... I think he mentioned that stat like 15 times. That was about as bad commentating I have heard since the Iowa State game last year! Awful!

It doesn't really bother me that they were pulling for the underdog to get their first win in conference. It bothers me a lot more when commentators spend five minutes talking about Marcus Smart when he's not even on the floor.

I'm as passionate about this team as anyone, maybe more than most sometimes. It's the constant barrage of negativity that wears people out. Know what I mean? :D

Exactly. All I am asking for is some consistency. Are they frontrunners or spoilers?

Given the season we've had it is probably easier to find things going well than find things going poorly. So it definitely becomes tiresome when people only focus on the things we've done wrong.

When it comes to sports talk you'll always have to deal with a lot of confirmation bias. Also, I think a lot of people are so worried about disappointment that they go out of their way to diminish expectations.

It's unrealistic for fans to expect 'A' game performances every night. Also, we are in the middle of a stretch where we will have 4 games in 9 days, ending with OSU in Norman on Big Monday.

Having said that, just about everything regarding this game was below average, our performance, officiating and commentators. Did someone tell the commentators before they left LNC that yes, there was a D1 coach who didn't want Ryan Spangler on his team?.

A win is a win. If we are going to have an off night, this was probably the best night to have one.

Exactly my point. This has been a great season so far by any measurement you want to name.

I was biting my nails at the end worried we might lose a game the other team had no business to be in at the end. But I also realize that it's not easy to play pretty against a team like TCU. The only chance they had was to make the game ugly. And, that's exactly what they did until the two minute mark. Fortunately for us, we pulled it out for another win in conference. That, in itself is quite an accomplishment for a team no one expected to be in this position.

Agreed with just about everything there.
Commentators were brutal, as was out play for several stretches of the game. Like you said, if we were going to have an off game, tonight was the night to do it. The frustrating thing is that it seemed like the reason we had an off game was because we knew we were playing TCU. I know we're young, but I'd like to think that games like TCU and Texas last year should have taught us something.

I think you're right in that OU played down to TCU's level in tonight's game. But give the Frogs credit, they made a game of it by scrapping for every loose ball and rebound, and taking it to the hole with abandon on the offensive end. That's the only chance they had to win this game, and they almost pulled it off.

Remember what I have said so many times I know everyone is sick of hearing it. There are no easy games in the Big 12 conference this season. That doesn't mean every team we play is better than us. It's just that OU doesn't have the horses to take it to any team we'll play and win the game going away.

In time I hope we will, so people like us don't have to bite our nails until there is nothing left to nibble on anymore. ;)

I'm not trying to be negative at all, we won a conference game and in the end that's all that matters. But we certainly seem to have a thing for playing down to the competition. I can't recall a game all year where I feel that we just beat a lesser team down like we probably should have. It seems every game we have had against the weaker teams on our schedule we have kind of let them hang around and not really took it to them. But again, we have played above my and just about everyone else's expectations so far and I'm going to enjoy every bit of it. Just would like to turn up our intensity against the lower teams before we slip up on one. Saturday at tech could be a good example, a team everyone thinks you should beat, but I don't think they as bad as maybe their record would indicate and being on the road just makes it that more difficult. We better show up ready to play.

No doubt about it. If we go into Lubbock not ready to play, Tech will send us home with our tail between our legs just like they did two years ago. Saturday's game worries me a lot!

From a fan perspective, I think the worst thing is many expected the game to play out just as it did where the lead would dwindle before halftime, followed by spurts of offense in the second half, followed by Woodard sitting down during crunch time as the team tries to hang on for the win.
