Its a sad state of affairs that we can't get 8,000 people in the LNC for a 8:00 pm Tip against saxet.

But we can't reduce the capacity because we sell soooooo many season tickets. /s

We sold over 11,400. Reducing capacity wont magically fill the arena. you will still have 3500 not showing up and you would have 5500 instead of 7800. Not really better.

Looked like it was packed on tv from what I could see

this ..

If the game was played Saturday afternoon the actual head count would have been much improved. A Tuesday night late start did not help matters and some fans who were required to drive down from the northeast part of the state, where they had bad weather, probably played into the mix.

I felt certain that the late layup by Spangler was a set play out of the timeout, but Coach Kruger said no, texas had defended the play he called, so Jordan and Ryan adjusted to make that play. That makes it even more impressive, in my eyes.

Man, was that a good win.

Then you stop selling tickets to the 3,500 people who don't come to the games. The solution is simple. You don't show up, you don't get tickets.

I noticed the same comment. Great read by Spangler and Woodard. I also loved Cousin's steal when he had the Texas player trapped at halfcourt. Great job of getting the steal without fouling and keeping the ball inbounds.

those 3500 donate a lot of money to the university. They don't get tickets, they stop giving money.

That makes no sense. If there was a demand for the seats that were sold but not filled, then ok. But to not sell 3500 seats out of principal is just crazy.

I'm saying you reduce the capacity to 8 or 9,000 and then come a lot closer to having a full stadium every night. That's where the demand for attendance is. You reduce capacity, get people closer to the court, you create a better environment. One that more people will want to show up to. You create increased demand and drive up prices. You make it a great environment for recruits to want to come play in. You create a big home court advantage. The team gets better. More money flows in.

Why do they care if they don't get tickets? They clearly don't use them. Not even for the Texas game.

These empty seats aren't from people who actually want basketball tickets. Worst case, you give those idiots suites where we can't see that they never come to the damn games.

My question for the no show season ticket holders is, which game, exactly, are you waiting for? I get not showing for a game like Tech or TCU. Hell, I even sort of understand why you might miss a game like ISU. But Texas? Seriously, why even waste your money if you're not going to show for the Texas game?

All that said, kudos to the fans who were there. The momentum is definitely building. Hopefully some of these no shows will realize it and start getting off their @$$es and into the LNC.

Agree completely. I was there and the people in attendance made it a great crowd. The student section seems to get better every game. Thank you STUDENTS! Thanks to all the Sooner fans that attended the game. The crowd inside the LNC helped give the team a lift when they needed it. The home court was an advantage.

Frankly, those that complain about empty seats while sitting on their @$$es in front of their TV sets are not part of the solution.

Even consistently bringing up attendance issues feels like a drag on our progress. I mean, I'm not trying to shut anyone down, and everyone's free to say what they like, of course, but the frequent focus on attendance, even after a big win (especially considering attendance is down everywhere), is a bit of a downer. And I wonder if it would leave a bad impression on any recruits who might visit this board.

I'm not suggesting we should all pretend everything is hunky-dory all the time, but this board at times seems to all but obsess over attendance, and there's so much good stuff to focus on instead.

Not sure whether that's directed at me, but I was there and have only missed two home games all season due to holiday travel.

And I'm going to keep complaining about season ticket holder no shows. At the game last night, I noticed OU advertised a "give back" program where ticket holders can donate any unused tickets to local elementary schools. So there's even less of an excuse.

Not at all. As indicated above, I agreed with your earlier post.

Agree with this also. OU has made numerous efforts to improve attendance. They also send out emails to thank fans for attending games. OU tries to keep it positive, which is the best approach IMHO.
