OU-UTSA Box Score

It seemed like Bieniemy had more than 8 points.

I thought that too. He also had 5 steals, 4 assists and 2 rebounds. Maybe his contribution to the game made it feel like he scored more points.

I really like what I have seen from him so far!

Bieniemy was fantastic, as was James. Manek struggled offensively due to pressure but was great on the boards. McNeace, on the other hand, was pretty bad.

It's interesting that the team took command with great defense when Kruger went to the smaller lineup w 3 guards and Manek & Doolittle in the frontcourt.

Some bright spots tonight based on the box score. Didn't get to watch tho

Can’t forget about Cakixte. 18 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and only 1 TO is a very good game.

Reynolds had a nice bounceback game after a so-so opener, too.

Reynolds makes things happen, most of them good, when he’s in the game. I have been impressed with both of our grad transfers.

Minutes played in the game can be an interesting stat. It seems clear which players are the top-7.

Just when I think McNeace is ready to take another step forward, he has a game like this. Not a good night for him. I would think he’d be able to bully his way to a double double against this team. Nope

I agree the minutes are a good indicator, but there’s no way Odomes doesn’t average as many minutes as Reynolds and Bieniemy. He was saddled with foul trouble today, but he’s far and away our best defender.

He's a disaster on offense, though.

Bienemy is the future, we need to get him as many minutes as possible in this transition year so he's ready to roll next year.

This. Odomes is going to be disappointed in his minutes this year methinks

Ada, I sorta disagree with you on this one. His stats look good, but I don't think he orchestrated the offense very well tonight. He was out of control at times and he was 6/17 from the field....which tells us (and we all watched it) that he took some wild shots. I thought that Bienemy came in twice at PG to relieve him and settled down the offense into a good flow. And Calixte got 7-8 points during garbage time when the game was already decided. I'm not trying to rip the guy because he certainly made a few good plays, but he was a mixed bag tonight. Although I do think his talent, if controlled, can be a positive to this team moving forward.

Other than Manek and Calixte taking some ill-advised shots, and McNeace not rebounding well, there was very little to not like about the overall play last night. James has emerged as our best player...looks really confident out there. Manek and Doolittle have improved their defense and rebounding. Calixte and Reynolds will both help us immensely. Bienemy looks like a future All-Conference player. McNeace will be an offensive force down low. Again, LOTS TO LIKE.

The transfers are going to be a bright spot on this team!

The internationals (Polla, Freeman) are both busts. On a team with no real height, Polla and Freeman combined for 10 minutes.

I agree....and I think a lot of folks confuse aggressive defense with great defense. jmo

McNeace will certainly play better than he did tonight. He had 4 turnovers, some bad shots, and I think came out for good when he didn't rotate and let a dribbler get all the way to the hoop. Odomes also was pretty bad tonight but he may have been trying to do too much with a bunch of family members in the stands.

The defense held UTSA to 0.84 points per possession. I think they only did that well on defense twice last season. Overall, they could have rebounded better but it's hard not to like the progress the defense has made from last year to this year.

Game 2. Lots of positives. There will be ups and downs but look at KSU who almost lost to denver. WVU loses at home to Buffalo.

Odomes will be fine. He will be needed againist upper echlon teams. he can defend at a high level, yes his offense is lacking. So is a lot of players.

Muni will be fine.

James has been great, that scrimmage had me concerned... (lol)

Grad Newcomers fit perfect, guys that want to be here and compete every single night.

Manek, only will get better and better.

Jamal, a superstar in the making, once he figures how to score at a high level, which can be this year.
