Just a couple of years ago, OU was a top 5 team. Even though they were a top 5 team, the NCAA tournament committee decided they wanted to see a Hansbrough v. Griffin matchup in the tournament which meant they would seed us as the 8th best team and put us in UNC's region. Both teams did not let down, they met and that was the end of OU's chance of making it to the final 4 or even the National Championship game. They were not going to beat UNC b/c that team was one of the best college basketball teams of all time. The committee screwed OU over by making their dream matchup and not letting it work out on its own.

Since that time, both OU and UNC have struggled. With only 3 McDAA in 2 years and 9 top 100 players, OU is currently at a 16-21 record while UNC is at a 24-20 record with 13 top 100 players and 10 McDAA with several of those players being top 25 recruits(according to scout).

My point is this...UNC is on the verge of not making the NCAA tournament for consecutive years and here we are with same scenario. Do we hold Capel at the same level as Williams or less than Williams even though Capel has done more with less while Williams is doing less with more.

My other point is this....This just proves that bad seasons happen even to the best coaches with the best recruits. It does not mean that they are not good coaches. Williams loses a bunch of players and his team struggles with young talent...and the same goes with Capel. And yet we are calling for Capels head even though it was just a year ago, we were afraid he was going to leave us.

Capel doing more with less? First I've seen that posted...

Capel and Roy simply cannot be compared. Roy has a track record going back two decades. Capel has had two good seasons. A couple down years are acceptable when you've proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you can get the job done. When you haven't... not so much.

And I freakin' hate Roy.

I am still trying to figure out what a methzoo fan is doing on our board? We aren't relevant dude. Go away.

I just want to have this crappy season in piece without having to deal with mizzoucobra from Big12hoops.com reading our board.

He's not saying anything outrageous BT, just let him be. Don't come across as a jealous gooner just because Missouri is passing OU right now.

Its just the facts on Capel's so far, hope he proves me wrong but as each day passes I really find it doubtful...

I think it's more befuddling with UNC right now they have gotten top talent year after year. They really shouldn't be this bad. Jeff Capel has had trouble keeping his talent or just hasn't gotten that much talent pretty much from day one at OU outside of Blake Griffin who had a brother already here. If we lost Austin Johnson or Taylor Griffin that first year I think there's a good chance Capel would have already been fired.

Capel has made only one bad mistake I think and his initials were TMG. Ruined a team, left Capel too late to have good players available to recruit. Now we have a stable of players that arent very talented, and very few sholarships available to right the ship for this year and next.

I think this season has already broke Bigtime. He seems so angry these days

I agree with the OP (great post) AND BigTime. Only a tool – or perhaps an idiot – would excuse RW for his team's performance the past two seasons while at the same time crucifying Capel for his.

I love OUHoops.com but I've grown weary of the steady diet of Capelhate this board is dispensing. No one hates seeing the Sooners lose more than this OU fan. But I have confidence that Capel will get this team on the right track to the point where we'll be competitive in the Big XII. And I plan to be one of the first to say "I told you so" when that happens. I do expect to be reminded of this post if I'm proven wrong.
