OU vs ISU

Jo'Nah Johnson was at the game. Not sure if that was good or bad.

We were collapsing in on the driver leaving the 3 uncontested. Against anyone except ISU probably a winning defense. ISU shot 7-14 behind the 3 line in the 2nd half.

Very disappointing loss. Definitely had our opportunities to win.
I think we slacked off Buckley a bit maybe because she is not usually the one who takes the threes. She averages about two or three per game. They have some who average six or more. She hadn't gone off like that, and, frankly, having seen her in the Iowa=Florida AAU game against Moncrief, I didn't think she had this in her. She couldn't hit anything in that game, even free throws. But, the Miami guards harassed her when she had the ball, and she didn't handle it well. We caused a few turnovers by harassing her, but we seemed to stop.

We had Vegas shadowing her very effectively for most of the second half - Otherwise she'd probably have made 15 threes.

Fennely always seems to get Sherri BUT again, she is not quite doing the job the last few years - gotta NOT be comfortable - always stay on edge Sherri

OMG! When we lose a game they come out of the woodwork, don't they.

Buckley is averaging 58% from BTA. You do not assume that kind of a shooter is going to have a bad day and you certainly never leave her open to fire away.

Even though this was a bad loss at home, I certainly congratulate Morgan and Sharane. Those two were warriors today.

I thought offensively, we had too many chippies rim around and out. Also Vegas seemed missing in action much of the time.

Get over it Tango, I've been posting AND going to games for 15+ years. I just don't sit on the women's board all year, lol. You are not the only one who should get to post about the women. Get over yourself

Vinny, a lot of us prefer the women's game, which puts us on the same page as John Wooden. But, it would be nice if you came back when you had something positive to say. I don't know that I've seen you do that.

Curiously, Sherri has been to three Final Fours in the past twelve years. You are on the men's board mostly, and there have been a lot of good coaches. Together, they have taken the men to three final fours in one hundred six years.

And the attacks continue. That is what keeps this board from growing.

There were some questionable calls on both sides today, and I don't think that we can blame them for this loss. I definitely think you have to give Iowa State credit for this win. They hit big shots and handled the pressure well on OUR home court. Morgan and Sharane really tried to carry the team tonight. Vegas HAS to get it together. She is a senior and just does not seem to playing with that fire that she needs to be playing with. There are still plenty of games left, but we can't afford to lose too many more if we hope to contend for the Big 12 title.

One rebound at the end of regulation of probably winning today.

The program has slipped a notch. Since Courtney left, attendance is off about 40%. Women's basketball loses a huge sum of money every year. Probably getting close to $2,000,000 per.

Nationally, Women's Basketball is not now or has it ever been as competitive as men's basketball. It is getting more competitive every year. But, it isn't close to Men's basketball. To try to compare the accomplishment's of a Women's program to a Men's program is the definition of silly. Those that know that and make that argument anyway, are not being honest.

I'm aware of the John Wooten quote. What a nice thing for him to say. If he really believed that, he would have coached the girls.

There is no current evidence in either the W/L record or the crispness of the girls play that any improvement is in sight.

Sure, Sherri set the bar. Give her credit for that. Not hitting the mark is her responsibility too.

Really? What an condescending attitude toward the game!

This attitude is reflected in your comment about Wooden. Why did he say he made the comment?

I'm not being condescending about women's basketball. I'm calling you out for being dishonest in your argument or educating you which ever the case may be.

Wooten said something to the effect that women's basketball was the better example of basketball in purest form.

Well, in fact, you are calling me out for stating an inconvenient fact.

Well, in fact, you are calling me out for stating an inconvenient fact.

What is the old saying? You are entitled to your own opinion. But, not your own facts. There are many more men's programs in the country that are competitive than women's. There always have been. Maybe it won't always be that way. But, it is still that way now.

I believe that you must know that.

Making the tournament, or a sweet 16, or a final 4 for the women isn't nearly as steep a hill to climb as it is for the men. I believe that you must know that too.

You made a weak argument in the effort to slap down some one you disagreed with. I believe that you know that too.

I'm sorry, gary. But, I stated a fact. You may not like the fact. You may try to overcome the fact. But, it is still a fact.

Your argument is a further pretense since the great competitiveness that you describe has never actually existed. The Kentucky's, Kansas's, and Duke's of the world still dominate, and you don't see much competition from the outliers. Pick your final four this year, and it might have been the same twenty years ago.

Fact, Sherri has been to three final fours in twelve years.
Fact, the men's program has been to three final fours in its history.
You can't overcome the simple reality that this is fact.
