Guys/Gals - i know that OU was as cold as the weather outside at WV, with that said, that was the worst officiated game i have ever seen in the Big 12. That bald head jerk should be run out of the officiating circles. Now I say that because I had 25 yrs of college officiating experience. I started out in the old southwest conference calling women's games when they were first getting started and those games were very hard to call but these guys today were worst than anything close to the old days.

Sherri, was right when she was telling them that WV was hooking but they had been doing it the whole game. Anyway, still more to come and we will rebound - let's just hope we rebound with better officials.

You could tell that Sherri was livid. In her radio post-game she alluded to the holding. Quote from Sherri: "I dunno, guess you have to teach that."

If you want to find out what people think of that bald-headed ref, go over to HoopScoop.com and ask the question, "What do ya'll think of Gator Parrish?"

If there were a 'Worst Referee in D1 Women's Basketball Pageant', he would win it hands down.

On a related note, Gator Parrish would probably find nothing wrong with the play in this video from Russia. :D

Unfortunately, it appears the officials have "adjusted" to the physicality of WVU. They started Big 12 play with a lot of fouls, recently they haven't had quite the foul issues.

I noticed that comment during the broadcast. Why don't they just say they are going to 'adjust' the rules of the game?

Adjusting to the officiating is the job of the players. They should figure out in the first 6 or 7 minutes what is allowed and what isn't. Our girls don't get physical enough when the officials are allowing teams to play that way.

Jo plays pretty physical but she hasn't learned that your hands can go straight up but not toward the offensive player and therefore she is often called for the foul. We need Caton here to show'em how it's done...that girl was tough as saddle leather.

It's up to the fans and the conference to remind officials that this is not the NHL. If so, forget women's basketball.

I love the way WV plays defense! I have commented in the past that I wish we played like that. There were some missed calls on both ends but I didn't thing WV got away with murder by any means.

You've always admired the way Blair and Mulkey play. Must be hard to cheer for OU. Sherri plays basketball.

If we were playing as physical as WVU and got called for the same amount of fouls, I'd be fine with that. That was not the case. Morgan got mauled several times with no foul called. At some point, a reach in foul must be called. That's the refs job, not the players.

Adjusting to the officiating usually means that if the officials are calling it close, you have to adjust the way you play defense so you don't get into foul trouble.

If the opponent fouls Aaryn 3 times on a long drive down the middle of the court but no foul is called, are we supposed to do the same thing when we are on defense?

If the opponent is pushing Morgan out of the lane so her teammate can score, is that what Morgan is supposed to do when we're on offense?

When the opponent pushes Sharane down in an effort to intercept a pass, is Sharane supposed to do that the next time she's on defense?

How, exactly, do you adjust to the officiating if the officials appear to think that anything goes?

If the other side is doing it consistently and not being called for it then yes we should be doing it also. I however thought that many of the things WVU did in the first game that got fouls (running over screeners, etc.) they have learned not to do now. Their fouls are now more subtle; holding the help side player to keep her from moving to a defensive or rebounding position.

I thought that our problems began with our first substitutions. Portia could not coordinate with anyone else on either defense or offense. Sometimes Jaz had the same problem.

Vest Wirginia has begun to grow into the team that preseason predicted would be tied for second.
We didn't get this one so now we have to go kick a cripple on Wednesday in order to remain a game ahead of the third place pack.

We did not lose this game because of the refs. WVU was much more athletic and we could not get a shot off that was not contested. They played good defense we did not. The refs are bad at most games and whether we like it or not the women's game is becoming much more like the men's in terms of physical play.

I completely agree!

I don't think anyone has claimed that we lost this game because of the officials. If players and coaches are open to criticism and critique, so are officials.

The men's game is more physical, but often it's a 'no harm, no foul' situation. I've often seen an official wait to blow his whistle until he sees if the foul causes the player to miss a shot or lose control of the ball. That attitude isn't consistent with the rules of the game, but I can understand it and accept it. What we see with the women's game is something completely different.

Is there a place where I can place a bet on what the results would be if we tried this tactic?
