THe OP on this thread is getting owned by Denver and ABD. This is an absolutely asinine argument to compare OU/Capel to UCONN/Calhoun. If you can't see the differences in the seasons of the two teams....well, go back to the football board.
Cincy is similar to Oklahoma State or Texas Tech. Not really bad but nothing special.
Cincy is not a good team....and losses are losses.
Cinci is 15-9 in the Big East and a bubble team. I would say Cinci is average about like OSU, A&M, and Missouri (perhaps Tech deserves to be mentioned but I just can't believe Tech swept OU).
Denver beat me to it.
I would rather be in UNC's or UConn's situation becuase those guys have proven over decades they can coach. Jeff Capel could easily end up being like a Quinn Snyder. He went from Elite 8 to out of a job in like 3 years.
Cincy is a lower end bubble team. Winning at UConn definitely helped their resume as they may finish .500 in conference now. Hardly a great team.
You forgot Saturday's loss to Cincy at home in which Calhoun said outside of Walker, his team flat out sucked.
No one is trying to justify anything....but seasons like this happen and there is one example of a program which is similar to OU's (except UConn hasn't had the injury/healthy issues OU has except their head coach)
Like I said, there is more to the Quin Snyder story....and the comparison makes me shudder because I don't see Capel being anything like Snyder.
We don't know that yet. I would hope he's better than Snyder but if he has 2 or 3 straight years like this one he's gone.
Totally unintentional. That loss at home by double digits to Cinci is unacceptable. Just like so many of OU's losses this year. In fact, it (th Uconn loss to Cinci) may be the worse loss of both teams but the UTEP debacle and the road losses at Nebraska, Baylor and OSU give it a good run for the money.
its funny how 2 years ago people said we weren't going to be able keep Capel cuz he would get snatched up by a bigger program. Now everyone wants him fired.
Injuries and inexperience...just like football...nothing more, nothing less
Thats correct. I still wouldn't be surprised if WW has been injured all season. There were no injuries early in the season and OU got crushed by VCU, San Diego, Houston, Gonzaga and UTEP. (The game WW missed in Alasaka was the one game OU won - I believe) Injuries have been problems in Big XII play.
We don't know what? That I don't think Capel is like Snyder. Lets just say I would be SHOCKED if that is the case.
I believe his point was that we don't have enough information on Capel to make that determination yet.
As he pointed out, Snyder went from the Eilte Eight to out of a job 3 years later.
What we know about Capel so far is that his teams excel when they include a guy who is the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft.
Only time will tell if his teams will excel without such a rare talent on the roster.
