Sorry to call you out, Tim, as that isn't my intention. Just curious what you are hearing on the Buzz front?

You made a few posts last week stating it was a done deal that he would sign a contract for 2.1 million per year today to be the new basketball coach at OU.

Is that still on or off?

Any other info you can provide is greatly appreciated.

First let me say I'm typing this from my phone at the airport so hopefully the grammar police will give me a hall pass. I don't feel you are calling me out you are simply asking a question so no apology needed. When I'm wrong I will always post and admit it. My source was from Buzzs side. After I was told by two different people I contacted someone I know at OU. Both sides were confident it was a done deal. Obviously it looks like that wasn't the case and I jumped the gun. I know that someone in Oklahoma was telling OU that Buzz will 100% take the job when his season ends. This person is very close to Buzz and stuck his neck out to convince OU to slow their search. I know this person is not happy that his credibility took a hit and apparently an old friend used him to get a better deal at Marquette. I'm not saying there is no chance we get Buzz until he signs the deal Marquette has countered with but it's not looking good. I was 95% sure it was done, I should have waited to post until I was 100%. I think I even posted that I have a bad feeling he was using us to get a raise.

Thanks, Tim! No one is blaming you for the change in plans. You did indeed warn us that Buzz may be using the offer to get more money at Marquette. Here's the post you made:

My source is definitely not James Hale. The next story he breaks will be his first. I feel the source is good, there were way to many details like names and stuff of that nature to be completely fabricated. I guess I will see next week how good the source is. It did emphasize if they lose tonight so let's hope they lose tonight so we can get this thing wrapped up. I posted it because I feel it is credible. FWIW someone texted similiar info to the sports animal today and they read it on air. My only concern is Buzz is using his connections in Oklahoma to stir the pot and get himself a raise. Doesn't sound like his MO and I think his teams performance alone will accomplish that. I know for a fact that someone in Oklahoma is telling people at OU that Buzz will take the job so hopefully it's not being done to get a better deal at Marquette.

I'm not surprised. With Big East re-alignment coming and Marquette likely to be in the non-football division (won't share in football revenues), they need to get to the dance every year or become a Division 3 school. Fear of losing their coach made them vulnerable to exploitation.

I would guess that he's talking about the fact Buzz used a friend (and OU) to get a bigger contract.

Correct. I understand that coaches use coaching searches all the time to squeeze their current school for a bigger contract, but to burn a friend like that seems pretty sh**ty to me. (If that's the way it went down).

Even worse, to have OU slow down our search while he finished playing in the tourney makes it even more galling. If it went down like this, I hope Buzz is fired in 4 years after putting Marquette on probation and losing 40 out of 60 games.

Kind of like Capel did to us.

This. If it turns out we lost BCG or some other candidate because we were waiting on Buzz... well, it will be bad.
