Anyone know what the penalty is in college? Was wondering what would have happened in the NI/ A&M game if the guy had called an extra time out.

I remember years ago in an NBA game a team went down by one with one second left and they had no time outs, but called on anyway. The penalty was one free throw. It was made so now down by two. But, under NBA rules they got the ball in the front court for the throw in. Threw it in and a guy hit a turnaround jumper for a two to tie the game.

As a bonus, name the player that made the shot to tie the game. Hint, he played for OU and if there had been a three point shot at the time his team would have won the game. As a double bonus only answer if you actually saw the shot live on TV.

Technical foul, Chris webber can tell you all about it

Gar Heard - and yes I was watching when it happened.

The penalty is more severe in college. A technical is called, giving the other team two free shots and the ball out of bounds on the sideline.

Chris Webber made that mistake in the 1993 NCAA finals against North Carolina. Michigan was down by two points when he called a TO his team didn't have, giving NC two free shots as well as the ball. His screw up pretty much ended any chance the Wolverines had of winning the game.

What's the penalty for a travel then calling too many time outs ?

There is no penalty if it's not called. Such was the case just before Webber called his infamous timeout. He got away with a traveling violation the officials did not call for some reason.

Good job, Deejay. Against the Celtics. As i remember the clock actually ran out but, after a delay, they put one second back on. So there was plenty of time to plan for calling the technical. At the Boston Garden. I bet they have changed that rule. Makes no sense to do it in college.

I had heard they changed the rule this year so that it was just a one shot technical.

I think you are correct. There are now class A and class B technicals. I don't remember which is more severe... But they are 1-shot and 2-shot Ts. An "administrative technical" is only 1 shot. That includes things like incorrect lineup to start the game (happened to Texas this year), hanging on the rim, and illegal TOs. Unsportsmanlike technicals are still 2 shots.

Sorry Ada was just kidding on that - how the hell did the refs not call that travel !
