This is an issue that has to be addressed...we cannot have this happen anymore....look at this

Keith clark
Bobby maze

Tony neysmith
Dau jok

Possible losses this year:
Tmg
Willis
Gallon
allen

4 players gone, possible 4 this year....thats 8 players in 4 years....thats TERRIBLE...do these kids not like capel at all?? Or is he just lying to themwhen he recruits them telling them they will start or play a certain role and they get to campus and thats not the case??

We've gone through this topic year in and year out and some of this is just college basketball today. A lot of other schools have the same issues. OSU will probably lose 4 or 5 guys of their roster this year with Anderson leaving, Mounelo is a Sr and one or two other guys probably getting their ships pulled they've got through a lot of roster changes in the 2 years under Ford, Florida has had roster issues since they won the national title. UNC goes through a bunch of roster changes year in and year out. Kentucky will probably have a complete roster change next year with guys going pro.

Our problem right now is that we haven't had a lot of guys step up from the weeding out process. OSU did have guys step up like Anderson and the guy from Kentucky and Page and other guys. We really didn't have any guys outside of Davis and Crocker and that wasn't enough.

I am not including guys going pro or leaving because they are seniors...I am talking about kids leaving because they are unhappy...so they either go pro early or transfer....capel has had way to many transfer..

so including the three I missed thats 11 kids!!
What is going on here?
And I consider kicking kids off the team because of discipline issues and grades andissue to....capel should be able to keep these kids under wrapps...Iknow you will always have incidents but they should be few and far between

and no most schools dont have guys transfering at this rate...OSU is going to loose guys because their coach is going to give them the boot...not because players are wanting to transfer

Glad I'm not the only one who misses Dou Jok.

It's not a great record, but attrition is pretty common at the D-1 level. It's just such an inexact science with so many variables going on. Young kids, school, playing time, all kinds of stuff. Kelvin Sampson's list of players who left the program was legendary and he did ok.

We need to avoid the kind of mass exodus we are going to have this offseason, but you are going to lose people from time to time, if not yearly. Just the way it is.

We are not talking about loosing a couple kids every other year...this to me is a serous issue

Roughly looking at 11 kids either transfering or leaving early because they are unhappy or have other issues

11 kids divided by 4 years is almost 3 kids a year....thats just silly!!

too bad about clark... fun to watch.

and every team loses players every year but Capel seems to be missing a bit too much on recruits.

To me that would be 0 kids transfering..I am strictly talking about kids wanting to transfer or wanting to go pro because they are UNHAPPY. UNC goes through roster changes because their kids leave gladly for the pros

every team looses roughly 2-3 kidsa year because they are unhappy? Kids that could help contribute?

Pattillo not going to class, Cannon being unruly at the Huff, and Early doing whatever he did at that Athletic Club are Capel's fault??? Sometimes kids need to show some responsibility.

those three issues
4) willis getting stabbed
5) gallon taking money
6) tmg not coming back for x-mas
7) fitz stealing
8) pledg stealing

I know some of these kids are good kids and just had issues because they are immature....but the issues under capels helm are starting to add up...alongside kids leaving....
sure doesnt seem like he is stepping in and giving any type of leadership

That's 20 scholarship guys in Sampson's 12 seasons, and that doesn't even include guys like James Wright, Tony Heard, and James Hall who signed but never made it to campus. It also doesn't include walk-ons, which Dou Jok was.

Look, I agree we need to avoid turning over the whole roster like is going to happen this season, but you can avoid to lose a player or two every season.

If you look at a lot of Sampson's guys outside of Raymond and Humphrey there weren't many starters on that list the first 5 years. Lou Moore too I guess. Patillo, Clark, Maze, TMG, Gallon, WW all started a bunch.

Evans never left OU he was just hurt the entire time. An injury ended his career and he graduated from OU in 2002. I don't think you can really count him as leaving OU because he never left. Same with Blake Johnston I think he quit basketball but stayed at OU.

The basketball team is the whole point. I do not really care whether or not they passed their sociology test.

Also, soonersam reminds me that I forgot Jarrett Hart.

And Jabahri Brown was just suspended his last few games he was still on the bench for senior night. So he can't really count either.

Alexander, Turner, Foust, Lavender and McKinzie were all starters at one point. And they all left in a short span of time.

The Jabahri Brown point is a fair one, since he would have been gone after the year anyway.

I am still at a loss as to how the basketball team didn't lose players because they were still enrolled in class at the university.

I was comparing the first 5 years which is where Capel is right now. The advantages of having more years under you is that you have a lot more of your players which is why Sampson didn't have near the fall when players left that Capel is having right now. You can't compare Sampson's last 5 years to Capel's first 5 because of the advantages Sampson had with knowing the JUCO recruiting area and having a solid program going. Granted we still have a solid program but Capel isn't recruiting the same as Sampson.
