A nice surprise. The best practice crowd that I can recall. A rough count got me to about 50. The kids responded with an enthusiastic effort.
Today was work and not scrimmages for fun. After conditioning drills, there was a long set of offensive work. They weren't working on a set plays. It was a basic motion look. The execution was pretty rough.
While they don't particularly look like a good basketball team right now, on an individual basis some players made some good plays and others didn't shine. Woodard, Cousins, and Hornbeak all made several good passes. The good shooters were Hornbeak and Tyler. Between those two, Tyler was best. Woodard got to the rim a couple of times and made tough shots. I'm still waiting on him to hit a jumper or trey. Spangler was really good around the rim again.
Buddy had a poor all round practice for him and CJ was a turnover machine. Booker's performance was jerky. He made a couple of shots. But, he struggled to get open and was taken advantage of on defense some. He is a good prospect. But, it is a big step from 2A ball to Div. 1.
Cam played well. Better than the last two practices. He was a really aggressive on the ball defender and had a fair to middling shooting day. Those fans like myself that are expecting Cam to show up as the new improved Cam are still in a holding pattern.
Concerning the Woodard Cousins competition. The Woodard fans would have probably perceived him to be the better of the two today. The Cousins fans would have thought their man looked the best. In my opinion they are both doing a good job.
While Bennett did block and alter shots and ran the floor well today, he was a bit of a non factor. No knock on him. It is my perception that Spangler is starting to assert himself more on both ends of the court. They really need those JC bigs. The team will look a lot different if either one of them works out to be an every game sub caliber player.
Apparently there is a new graduate assistant. The kids name is Kruger or something like that.
