There was another nice Monday practice crowd today. I counted around 20. The kids really seem to appreciate the fans coming out to watch them work.

More conditioning drills to start off. In past seasons Kruger eliminates so much running to start off after a bit. But, for now, he is getting them in shape.

The 1st hour and twenty or so was just hard half court work. It is hard for me to find much to report. They are coaching both offense and defense and a lot possessions are stopped for teaching before being completed. There is no transition or flow and it is hard to identify really good or bad performance.

The last 20 minutes of this section they stayed in half court. But, Kruger let them go at it all thru a possession without stopping play. This 20 minutes and the final 20 minutes of full court work are the portions comments about individual play cover.

I know this sounds like a broken record. Tyler was filling it up from all over the gym again today. I kind of lost count. But, he must have hit at least 6 3 pt. shots during the last two sections. I couldn't figure out how he was getting open so much. It looked like he was just shooting over smaller defenders.

Woodard finally hit himself a jumper. It isn't that he has been missing a lot. He just hasn't been looking to take many outside shots. He missed a couple of threes today and caught Tyler flat footed on a switch and slipped in to hit a jumper from the free throw line. He shoots well enough to score some use full points. He is really a smart player. He picks his spots well and doesn't take a lot of risk with the ball in his hands.

Cousins had a very good practice today. He got out in front on a couple of fast breaks. One them was on a steal he made. Both shots were contested hard at the rim. He picked Woodard's pocket with back court pressure for another lay up. He added a couple of mid range jumpers and a 3 from the corner. He was solid on defense and looked like a good player today.

Spangler was good again today. Nothing from mid range was going. But, he is starting to display some Osby like quickness from close up.

Cam had another good Cam day. He defended well and hit about half of the few mid range jumpers he took. He took 2 three's and missed badly. Kruger didn't say anything, so, he must be getting the green light to try a few.

Booker is interesting to watch. He is being challenged more than he is comfrontable with. Just when you start to wonder about him, he will make a really nice play. He is having a tough time getting open and when he makes one he has had to work hard to get the look. I'm sure he will be fine in time.

Hornbeak shot the ball well again. Of the guys that get the most minutes, he is looking like the 3 pt. shooter. Buddy didn't get much accomplished. But, it is a little different than the past 2 yrs. They aren't running anything for anyone right now. They aren't trying to get an Osby or a Pledger the ball with a chance to score. They are just running offense and the shots either come or not within that context. If they were trying to get Buddy the ball, I'm sure he would be scoring his fair share.

I think that they might have shown some improvement in their execution. But, on a day to day basis it is hard to tell.

Will be interesting to see if Tyler can pull it all together and be a solid contributor for us.

He's a 6'6-7" athletic kid that has the ability to shoot the ball. He should be able to contribute at the high D1 level, but has never played up to those ablities.

i remembering in the early practices last year, Neal was hitting the 3s in practice and in team drills which would explain why Kruger kept giving him the minutes in games especially early in the season. Neal just seemed to hit the wall with both his offense and defense. I too hope he can find a way to get that confidence back because like you said, he is capable of hitting shots and Fts that can make a difference.

If he can learn to play defense...

I think Neal will help us some, on a team that doesn't have many sharp shooters. I know he didn't have a great year shooting it last season, but I think he is a better shooter than that.

Gary, can you talk about Booker's athleticism at all? Maybe compare him to somebody in how he moves?

Between Pledger and Hornbeak. If Pledger was a step too slow, he is half a step. He is a tough kid with plenty of game. He is just a notch below in the athleticism department when compared to last year's freshen guards. He is being defended in practice by kids that are alittle quicker. I think that he is a good prospect and is good enough to play at Oklahoma. He is just going to have to improve his technique and learn what he can and can not do.

Thanks. Hopefully he will get a little quicker, but if not, I think there is still a place for him. It's LK's job at that point to put him in situations where he can succeed and help the team despite his shortcomings.

I certainly agree with that. I'll give you an example of what he is doing. Today, Hornbeak, with a little help from the sideline, had him hemmed up some. Booker went to dribbling with his right hand, then his left. He went between his legs and behind his back. After he got thru with all of that, Hornbeak took the ball away from him. It looked bad and probably didn't help his confidence much.

A few minutes later Hornbeak had Woodard in about the same spot. Even though Woodward might be able to get Hornbeak one on one from time to time, he knew there wasn't much profit in trying and had enough quickness to create a little separation. He just passed the ball to the open man and the play continued.

He just needs to figure out that some of the things that worked in HS don't work any more. And against the better defenders he will need alittle help getting open.

Hornbeak, Hield and Cousins are going to terrorize some guards this year with their D
