Practice Report from first workout

Was Manyang there? Didn't see him in any pics.

Yeah Manyang was there, first hour he was on a step climber but I left after and not sure what he did.

I really like the make up of this team!

Call me crazy if you want. But this is the first time in years I think Coach Kruger might be able to bring in five players off of the bench without seeing a major drop-off in talent. If I'm even close to being right, that will serve us well in a long, grueling Big 12 season and beyond.

In years past the loss of one key player to an injury would have been devastating. That is not the case now that we have a solid ten man rotation of players who could see quality minutes this season, and two more who could see limited playing time. That could change if one or more players redshirts, which wouldn't surprise me much. When was the last time we were able to use a redshirt on a couple of players and not worry about our depth?

The video showed that Manyang had both knees heavily wrapped while on the stair climber.

The video also showed several fans on the sideline.
Can someone provide some details of the practice?

This was my first open practice to attend. I was only able to stay 1 hour of the practice. So for anyone after maybe they can comment.

The first part of practice the guys were working on fundamental drills with dribbling and layups. Then the team went over a rebounding drill which was really physical and entertaining. 5 on 5 drill. They did a 3 man weave drill who made the basket would run back on defense.

I was trying to pay attention to the new guys on the team. My first impression of Rashard Odems is he is smooth and has confidence about him. He definitely will be good on isolation due to him being left handed, he blew by Walker a few times.

Dante Buford is going to be a beast this year. He can knock down 3's and really help with the depth this year. I would describe him as Scary Athletic.

Christian James is thick so don't know if that is his playing weight but he won't get pushed around that's for sure. He was solid during the practice.

Mcneace seemed improved, he was using his height on defense making people make tough shots. He seemed comfortable.

Final thoughts from the practice is this team is deep on talent and athletic. They will defiantly tire teams out with their depth as long as health is good. Kruger will have fun with this team on defense. First practice report post so forgive me if it didn't make sense. I want to go to another practice for sure. Recommend anyone else to also if you have a chance.

Thanks very much!!!

Do you think that Buford is the most athletic guy on the team?

Well done, runner!

Your report confirms what I said earlier. OU has some serious depth this season. I think this team's depth will pay huge dividends down the stretch and in post-season play.

Most here agree that Hield, Cousins, Woodard and Spangler will start to begin the season. Who would you put in that fifth spot based on what you saw in practice?

Excellente. Thank you sir

From the practice Buddy is the most athletic! I mean that Kansas tip in last year was pure heart and athletic ability. Until Buford does something like that he will be behind buddy on athletic ability but expect him to catch a lot of lobs from Woodard!

Lattin will be the 5th starter to start the season in my opinion and season goes along maybe see Mayang sneak in start. But seems like they are taking him along slowly with his injury.

Does anyone know when the next open practice is?

They can have 30 practices before their first game on November 13th, so the team will be practicing 4-5 days per week most weeks. The times may change according to the days. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they have use a practice for an open scrimmage before or after the home football games with Texas Tech (10/24) and Iowa State (11/7).

All the practices are usually open. You can call the basketball office and they can tell you the day and times of the practices. Renee at (405) 325-8302 or Tenia at (405) 325-4732 are both very cordial and helpful. Mike Sheperd really runs the day-to-day operations for the team as the Director of Basketball Operations ..... a long-time Kruger staff member who really has the final say on who can attend practices.

No. I live in Houston but have 2 grandsons who live in Edmond and they both love sports. The oldest really enjoys going and watching them practice, but he is in the middle of football and school, so it makes it tough to get down there. I still try to work it out if possible.
