Just looked at their roster and commitment list... it looks like they've got a full roster of 13 scholarship players and have four committed for next year. But they only have one senior (Muonelo) and one underclassman who seems likely to go pro (Anderson).

So... who do they expect to be leaving from the current roster to make room for the new recruits?

I figure OU people might know... never been to an OSU board and wouldn't know where to find a good one.

Teeng Akol has been rumored to be on Ford's chopping block since about a week after he arrived on campus.

My OSU sense was tingling...

I'd say the top candidates are:

Teeng Akol and Nick Sidorakis. Sidoraki's dad is a high up at Southern Hills Golf Course in Tulsa, and could pay his own way if he still wants to stay at OSU. Akol (even more so with his recent injury) will be behind 4 guys in the post rotation and even more depending on how Cobbins adapts.

There is also the possibility of one of the freshman signees not qualifying. Olukemi and Cobbins seem shoe-ins to qualify so it looks like it would have to be one of the Louisiana guys. Of course that's 100% pure conjecture on my part.

Page is also a candidate to pay his own way, and with him being an OSU fan he'd be a guy who might take one for the team.

Pilgrim might try to go play in Europe as well, if he has a good enough season, since this would be his 5th year of college ball.

I'd also say the 3rd man out on the Penn, Gulley, Dowell trio might decide to hit the road too.

Seems like Ford takes chances on a lot of guys with questionable talent and/or grades.

With only 13 spots available, I'm not a big fan of taking risks like that... seems like a Quin Snyder sort of thing to do.

Like I said of these 4 guys signed today, none of them had any question marks on grades or character that I've read, and I was simply saying it's possible that Ford over signed with the knowledge that one of them might not make it.

Besides Karron Johnson, I don't know who else has had any documented issues.

I thought you implied the two from Louisiana were not guaranteed to qualify...

Akol had qualifying issues, didn't he? I thought that was they he left USF and why he wasn't cleared until December last year. And apparently he's also got significant questions about his talent.

I suppose you're right about Akol. I forgot about him.

I don't think he would ever do that but it would be BS if Ford attempted to get guys to pay their own way after being on scholarship.

That is bush league.

Yeah, saw that... but whether you're guessing or not, they're not known as qualifiers yet.

I'm not a fan of basketball coaches oversigning and making things work. I guess I shouldn't have called it Quin Snyderish, though... now that I think about it, it always seemed like we had a couple scholarships sitting unused because he couldn't figure out how to get players to campus.

Unless Ford KNOWS Sidorakis and/or Page will be giving up a scholarship (and they weren't asked to do so), I don't like the move. I think it sets a pretty bad precedent when a coach has to start finding room for his recruits.

I'm not claiming to know any thing about this situation, I was just outlining some possible "solutions" that could present themselves next summer.

Injuries to Sidorkis and Akol may answer this question depending on how quickly the new guys adapt.

.

Yeah, make a three year starter pay his own way.

Just my opinion, but I don't think there is ANY WAY that Ford asks Sidorkis or especially Page to "pay their own way."

That's just ridiculous, IMO.

Page was a starter as a true freshman, and while Sidorkis isn't great, he's proven that he can be a decent 6th or 7th guy off the bench at the Big 12 level.

My thought is that he just oversigned in anticipation of the usual attrition that happens from year to year.

If anyone loses a scholarship, it will be a non-contributor like Akol.

3 way race at point Penn, Gulley, Dowell

3 way race at center Shaw, Walker, Akol

I think that Dowell and Akol will transfer for playing time.

Nick has a patellar injury but they said it will not require surgery. He is out until Christmas, give or take a week or two, if his rehab goes well.

If Ford makes room for someone on the roster, it won't be at Sidorakis or Page's expense. Can you imagine the backlash if he took an Oklahoma kid's scholarship away? He isn't that stupid.

Miss St had one of its best players give up his scholarship, so they could give it to Sidney. I'm not sure what his name is(he is a post player), but he paid for his own tuition for his senoir season. He did it for the team, maybe the coach is making the loan payments for him.
