I had a question, I guess it applies to all schools, but watching Kentucky got me thinking. With Kentucky starting 5 Fresh/Soph's can a coach sign as many players as he thinks will go pro, then try and find the scholly's? With UK maybe losing their entire starting 5 can he anticipate them going pro and signing a bigger class? Also with a guy like Blair leaving can Kruger plan on giving his schools away right now or after he leaves campus?

A coach can pretty much sign as many as he wants as long as he's down to 13 when school starts. He doesn't need to have openings before he uses them.

They can only sign during certain periods (I think April is the next period) and I'm sure Kruger has probably anticipated this for a while now. The scholarship for any new players doesn't actually begin until they arrive on campus. I guess you can always recruit someone and then tell them later you don't have a scholarship available but it probably wouldn't serve you well. I would think the coach has a pretty good idea what's going to happen before going after that next recruit.

Once a kid signs, a school is obligated to give him a scholarship for a year. A coach can't pull a signed LOI. The only exception to this is if a player doesn't qualify. In that case the school has an out.

OU's compliance staff doesn't like to have more guys on scholarship and LOI than the total available even if a guy has announced a transfer. Hopefully they are fixing that situation.
